About Abia State University :
Abia State University is one of the state owned universities in Nigeria. These state academic institutions were created to expand admissions and bring professional skills, expertise and modern research facilities close to the city and rural dwellers; and have helped talented students to obtain Higher education.
The inception of the university was in 1981 in the former Imo State under the name of Imo State University, Uturu, Okigwe. The university was established by Sam Mbakwe 1979 to 1983 Governor of old Imo State. Following the creation of Abia State in 1991, the Uturu campus of the University was ceded to Abia State; and is now known as Abia State University Uturu, Isuikwuato Local Government Area, Abia State, Nigeria. The university is organized in colleges and schools having been founded on the same collegiate system operated by University of Nebraska.
Abia State University offers undergraduate, graduate and doctorate degree; and has two campuses with its main campus located in Uturu while its College of Agriculture and Veterinary Medicine is housed by the campus in Umuahia, Abia State capital.

Located in the Igbo heartland where skill acquisition and entrepreneurship constitute the culture of the people, the University academic plan is structured to act as the backbone in the realization of the entrepreneurship drive of the people; hence, the University runs a comprehensive entrepreneurship / skill acquisition programme as to actualize the University slogan of One Graduate-Two Skills.
The University is located in Uturu at Longitude 5042 N and Latitude 6048 E on an average elevation of 450m. It is accessible to three International airports: The Port Harcourt International Airport with a driving time of about two and half hours, Akanu Ibiam International Airport, Enugu with about two hours driving time, and Dr. Sam Mbakwe International Airport, Owerri with about two hours driving time.
The University accepts partnership with institutions, governments, and private sector in broad areas of science and technology (including the Geographic Information Systems), Law, Education, Social science and the Humanities.

Studying at ABSU begins by selecting ABSU offered programs while completing the UTME form for the undergraduate program or by completing the School of Post Graduate Studies application form.
The Certificate/Diploma French Programmes are designed to train business executives, tourist industry managers, secretaries, diplomats, students, scientists, researchers and other professionals to understand as well as produce standard spoken and written French appropriate to their various areas of specialisation.
The Certificate Programme in Translation is designed for (a) candidates who have attained the level of the Abia State University Diploma French and (b) practising translators in foreign and Nigerian languages.
B.A French Programme
The B.A. French programme is designed for those who wish to become bilingual secretaries/managers/administrators in such national and multinational establishments as NNPC, NPA, NTA, NMA, Chevron, ELF, Peugeot etc;
Translators and conference interpreters who are among the most highly paid professionals in the world;
Diplomats and high-level employees in embassies and foreign missions in Nigeria and abroad;
Teachers of the French language which has assumed enhanced status in Nigeria, with ample promotional support and scholarships from the Nigerian and French governments.
