Medical Education

The Medical Education Unit focuses its activities on.

FACULTY
Faculty development is the main activity of the Medical Education unit.. The academic programmes includes but not limited to , workshops, seminars, interactive sessions and hands on exercises including micro teaching The highlights of the important activities are shown below:First workshop was 16 Jan 2009.The topic of discussion was Interactive learning Number of Participants 17

• Second workshop was held on 25 Feb 2009. The topic was Lesson Planning. Number of Participants 12
• Third session was on Appropriate use of OHP No. of Participants 14
• The 4th was Basic Workshop on Medical Education Technologies conducted on 21, 22 & 23 Dec 2009.It was held strictly as per the guidelines of MCI using the suggested syllabus. Nineteen faculty members attended the workshop.
• A new concept to improve the teaching skills of faculty viz. Nuclear Workshop following the principles of microteaching, was announced. The initiative was well taken by the participants .The special venue for the same is being set up.
• A Teaching/Learning Resource Center is being developed. This will be equally useful for the faculty as well as the students.
• Helping the faculty to develop appropriate, innovative and cost effective teaching aids is also done.
• A session on Lecturing a Lecture is scheduled for 25 March 2010.

• Conducted a workshop on Hidden Curriculum for the first batch of MBBS students in collaboration with the Dept. of Community Medicine. This is aimed at facilitating the hitherto uncared issues of the students in general and medical students in particular; eg. reading skills, self study skills, communication skills, presentation skills, memorizing skills, writing an examination skills, attending viva voce etc.. A poster competition was also was also conducted. Professors from other Medical Colleges evaluated and judged the bets posters.
• Motivated the medical students to start Azeezia Anti Ragging Movement (AARM), an initiative of the first batch MBBS students. The Medical education Unit has been instrumental to all the anti ragging activities of the college. The Department of Community Medicine was a partner in the implementation of this.
• Initiated the Arm to AARM programme against ragging by the second batch of MBBS students to support the Antiragging activities of the first batch. A poster competition on anti-ragging was also held. These posters were exhibited in the colleges. The Department of Community Medicine also supported this.
• A pictorial presentation of all the activities of the students towards a ragging free Azeezia Campus was exhibited at the main portico. This attracted the media as well as the new students and their parents (see the photo).
• A legal awareness campaign was organized for the students and their parents. The members of the District Legal Cells, representatives of the Judiciary and the Police explained the legal aspects of ragging.
• An Antiragging Slogan Competition and Moke Court were also conducted.
• A Brochure explaining the various legal measures by the Hon. Supreme Court, Ministry of Health, GOI, State Government, Recommendations of Dr.Raghavan Committee Report, Recommendations of UGC and MCI, was released. Copies of this were distributed to all students and parents
• Another initiative to strengthen the slow learners of 1 MBBS, is being worked out with the support of Anatomy, Physiology and Biochemistry.
• Regular academic sessions to students on study skills, listening skills, memorizing skills, exam writing skills etc are held.
• An intercollegiate workshop inviting students representatives from all Medical Colleges in Kerala is being planned to share Azeezia experience.
• The Medical Education unit is in the process of facilitating integrated teaching on special topics of common interest between various Department in the Medical College as well as institutions in the campus.

• Medical Education unit is involved in the hospital based health education programmes. Indigenously developed posters and hoardings bearing health promotion and diseases prevention massagers are displayed at various com-sites inside the hospital eg. waiting areas in the OPD. The input received from the public is beyond expectations .
• Community based health literacy programmes
• The medical education unit has extended its tentacles to the community also. Different types of IEC strategies are used to disseminate health information to the people. While doing so, special stress is being given to the vulnerable groups like adolescents especially students in schools and colleges, pregnant and lactating mothers, geriatrics health issues. It is worth mentioning that the participation of the medical students and faculty in such outreach health education activities, is very encouraging.

CAMPUS
The campus of the institute is spread over an expanse of 25 acres and is being developed into the institutional establishment with all the modern amenities. Besides the main institute building, the campus is coming up with boys' hostel, girls hostel, faculty and staff quarters on the campus. The academic blocks comprise of (1) Azeezia College of Nursing, (2) Azeezia college of Dental Science & Research and (3) AZeezia College of Medical science & Research. Wireless Campus
The institute has a 24x7 Wi-Fi faculity in the laboratories for the student and faculty members to avail Internet connection at any place in the college building.
Uninterrupted and Captive Power Supply
The institute has a 100 kVA high-tension (HT) dedicated connection from MPEB. The institute has also a 30 kVA DG set to meet the full load demand without interruption incase of any power failure from the supply grid.

Teacher-as-a-Guardian Counseling Scheme
The main objective of the scheme is to bring about qualitative change in curricular and extra-curricular activities of the students as well as to build a healthy teacher-student relationship. A teacher acts as a friend, philosopher and guide to students. Under this scheme each faculty member is nominated as Teacher-Guardian for a group of 20 students. Regular informal interactions between teacher acting as a guardian and students ,would help students nurture & grow their potentials.

Teacher Parents Interaction
The college has planned for teacher-parents interaction at least once in a semester tenure in person. Feedback regarding the progress of a student would be provided to the parents/guardians on phone and/or through email and / or postal mail.

Research & Consultancy
The institute offers ample and requisite facilities for research activities. The faculty as well as students are encouraged to undertake research and development and consultancy work and to explore the frontier of knowledge not covered through syllabus of the universities.

Industry-Institute Interaction
The institute is evolving strong links with prominent industries in order to generate valuable synergy between students and corporate world. Industry-Institute Interaction Cell is being set up for this purpose. Testing facilities are being developed in the institute.

Interaction with Experts and Professionals
The institute is planning to organize guest lectures, conferences, panel discussions, symposia, seminars, workshops, faculty development programs and vocational training from time to time. Lectures/talk by experts from industries and centers of higher learning, e.g. IITs/llMs would be arranged on regular basis so as to have interaction with them and to get students and faculty members expose to the latest development and advanced and cutting-edge technologies.

Personality Development Programmes
The institute is planning to conduct special English language classes for below-average students and advance courses for the students desirous of appearing in competitive exams ego TOEFL, GRE, UPSC, IES, IAS. In addition, personality development programmes are carried out to develop the right integrated personality traits. The students can benefit from
