B.K. Modi Govt. Pharmacy College

B. K. Mody Government Pharmacy College, only government degree Pharmacy College in Gujarat State, was started as one of the departments in Government Polytechnic, Rajkot in 1976. In 1984, the Government of Gujarat initiated degree pharmacy course in this pharmacy department, with exemplary donation of Rs. 20 lacs by Shri J. B. Mody, the Managing Director, Unique Pharmaceuticals Pvt. Ltd., Mumbai. Hence, this college was named as B. K. Mody Government Pharmacy College in the memory of late Bhagwanlal K. Modi and late Smt. Jayakunvar Modi.

Today, the college, owned by the Government of Gujarat is conducting M.Pharm (Pharmaceutics, intake 18), degree pharmacy (intake 60) and diploma pharmacy (intake 60), courses, under auspices of the Directorate of Technical Education, Gandhinagar. All the courses are approved by All India Council of Technical Education (AICTE), New Delhi and Pharmacy Council of India (PCI), New Delhi.

The college is located 6 km away from S.T. depot. Functioning under able leadership of Principal, Dr. J. R. Chavda along with teaching staff of 6 Associate professors, 15 Assistant professors, 12 Lecturers, the college offers modern educational facilities like advanced instrumentation lab, machine room, medicinal plant garden, computer lab, e-corner, audio-visual lectures on LCD projectors. The college also having facilities of boys hostel with capacity of 100 students and girls hostel with capacity of 75 students.

Library
The library is a treasure house of a plethora of important books. In the fields of Pharmacy, Chemistry, Physics, Mathematics and Computers, etc. including many valuable out-of-print books that are referred to very regularly, several Pharmacopoeias, Handbooks, Encyclopedias, Reference Books and Abstracts are available in the library. We subscribe to most leading journals related to the research activity of the Department.

WORKING HOURS
The Library is open from 10-30 a.m. to 6-30 p.m. on working days. The open shelf system having been adopted, readers have free access to books and journals. Lending service is restricted to the faculty, staff and students of the Department, and also to visiting faculty.
