The university was established in 1980 with five institutes. In 1993, the university emerged with 20 institutes affiliated to three departments:

Science fundamentals.
Science Technology.
Socials sciences and humans.

Now Badji Mokhtar University has 45000 students, 2210 lecturers, and 1900 administrative and support staff. UBMA offers both undergraduate and postgraduate courses. Every year 8,000 students complete both graduate and post graduate courses. The students may be national or international and left the university with experienced skills.

According to Algerian law dormitories are free; Around 13 dormitories are administered between the university and the National Office of Universities. Among 13 four dormitories this is near to the campuses of Annaba. All the students who study there (except those who live in Annaba), have the priority to have accommodation.

These components create a perfect position for interdisciplinary and interpretation with its social environment. Our school suggested the training possibilities likely to provide quality knowledge to meet worldwide standards. These services must play a role successfully in the growth of socioeconomic environment. Also creating an interaction with the community is very essential.
