About The University
Capital Medical University (CMU) was founded in 1960. It ranks among the top academic medical institutions in China，and is considered as one of the key municipal universities in Beijing. The founding President, Professor Wu Jieping, was a world-renowned urologist, member of both the Chinese Academy of Sciences and the Chinese Academy of Engineering. The current President is Professor Lu Zhaofeng.
CMU consists of 10 Schools, 14 affiliated hospitals and 1 teaching institution. The university and the affiliated hospitals have a staff of about 20,000. Among the staff, there are 6 members of the Chinese Academy of Sciences or the Chinese Academy of Engineering, over 1,000 professors, and over 2,000 associate professors. The university has over 9,000 enrolled students. CMU provides a wide range of educational programs for Doctorates, Masters, Bachelors and certificates. The faculty physicians at CMU train annually several thousands of clinical residents and fellows. Also, the faculty members also provide continuous medical education to physicians and other health professionals through seminars, teaching rounds, and tutorials on and off campus. Over the years, the university has graduated a large number of academic leaders and general practitioners for Beijing and the whole country.
CMU is a well known academic institution for its strong competence in the scientific research. It hosts many national and municipal key disciplines, laboratories and some exchange stations for post-doctoral research. High-caliber national and municipal research and training centers and institutes are founded here, covering a wide range of fields including General Practitioner Training, Clinical Medicine, Basic Medicine, Neurosciences, Ophthalmology, Geriatrics, Urology, Cardiology, Pain Medicine, Toxicology, Biomedical Engineering, Traditional Chinese Medicine, Reproduction, Health Policy and so on. We have achieved national and international recognitions in many areas such as Neurobiology, Cytobiology, Immunology, Medical Iconography, Neurology, Neurosurgery, Cardiology, Cardio-vascular Surgery, Kidney Transplantation, Respiratory Disease, Digestive Medicine, Oral-Maxillofacial Surgery, Ophthalmology, Otolaryngology and Pediatric Hematology, among others.

Professor, Doctor Wu Jieping, member of Chinese Academy of Sciences, member of Chinese Academy of Engineering, Honorary President of Chinese Medical Association, Honorary President of Chinese Academy of Medical Sciences, Honorary President of CMU, Honorary Member of American Academy of Physicians etc, got many national and international science and technology awards, including the Award for Science and Technology Improvement of He Liang & He Li Found, the Highest Award of Paris' Red Diamond, Award of Japanese Panasonic Urinary Medical Science and so on.
Professor, Doctor Hu Yamei, member of Chinese Academy of Engineering, Honorary Director of Beijing Children's Hospital, a renowned expert in China in the field of pediatric hematonosis, received many awards for her scientific and technical payoffs, including the first prize of Beijing Science and Technology Improvement in 1995. Practical Paidonosology (Sixth Edition) as the chief editor won the second prize of National Science and Technology Improvement Award, and the first prize of National News Media Award.
Professor, Doctor Wang Zhongcheng, member of Chinese Academy of Engineering, Chairman of Neurosurgery Association of the Chinese Medical Association, Director of Neurosurgery Science Institute of Chinese Academy of Medical Sciences and Honorary Director of Beijing Tian Tan Hospital, is a famous neurologist in China and was awarded by the country for many times.
Professor, Doctor Weng Xinzhi, member of Chinese Academy of Engineering, Honorary Director of Beijing Chao Yang Hospital and Director of Respiratory Disease Science Institute, is a renowned expert in the medical field, who has won the Golden Medal of WHO and the Award of Science and Technology Improvement of He Liang & He Li Found.
Professor, Doctor Zhang Jinzhe, member of Chinese Academy of Engineering, Councilman of Asian Association of Pediatric Surgeons, Chairman of Pacific Association of Pediatric Surgeons and Honorary Chairman of Pediatric Surgeons Association of Chinese Medical Association, is one of the founders of Chinese pediatric surgery, and won the ministerial and higher awards for many times. Besides, he was awarded Dennis Brown Golden Prize of the Royal Society in 2000 and the Indian Gandhi Prize for Pediatric Surgeons in 2002.
Professor, Doctor Wang Zhonghao, member of Chinese Academy of Engineering, Chairman of Angiology Association of Chinese Medical Association, member of New York Academy of Sciences, Chairman of Asian Vascular Surgery Association, Vice-Chairman and Consultant of International Society for Vascular Research and the Chairman of the International Budd-Chiari Syndrome Association.
