Dr.B.R.Ambedkar Medical College has been established in the year 1981 by Ananda Social and Education Trust,with the objective of providing Primary, Secondary and Tertiary health care facilities to the deserving. The institution also envisages provision of quality medical education both for Undergraduates and Post graduates.

It also has facilities for cultural and sports activities for students fulfilling the need for extra curricular activities.The curriculum followed, is as per the guidelines of the Medical Council of India and Rajiv Gandhi University of Health Sciences, which awards the various degrees & diplomas.

The Ananda Social and Educational Trust was set up as the outcome of a dream of committed Scheduled Caste persons to make a positive contribution for the betterment of SC and ST people, by opening up new avenues for them to find better slots in the social hierarchy. To this end a Medical college named after Bharatha Rathna Dr. B.R. Ambedkar was established in 1981 under the aegis of Ananda Social and Educational Trust by 9 founder Trustees

The odds the visionary team had to contend with were many, but the co-operation and encouragement received from several quarters made the dream project a reality. The Government of Karnataka under the stewardship of Sri.R.Gundu Rao accorded sanction to the Ananda Trust to start a medical college on 6th July 1981 at Cooke Town.

Subsequently, the Karnataka Government and Sri.B.Basavalingappa extended generous help with the allotment of 25 acres of land at Kadugondanahalli, at virtually no cost, to build its own campus. The Trust, which also runs a Dental College, a School of Nursing, a college of Physiotherapy as well as institutes of Medical Laboratory Technology and Radiography, has rich experience in the field of education. Its motto is to serve the weaker sections of the community, handicapped socially, educationally & economically.

CENTRAL AND DEPARTMENTAL LIBRARIES
The Central Library has a sufficient number of text books in all subjects in the ratio of 1 book to 10 students with access to audio-visual aids, Micro Film Reader, MEDLINE database, Proquest Medical Library connected to HELINET by RGUHS & Internet. Email Services are available to enable teachers, Post graduates and researchers to get the latest references as well as past journals for their dissertation and research work. Computers, video and TV, Photocopier, film reader etc., are also available. Both national and foreign journals are subscribed to in each subject to meet the demands of learning and to keep abreast with recent literature in each specialty.

The central library has about 14,100 books on various subjects. We keep adding new titles and revised editions to the library every year. Apart from textbooks and reference volumes, the library subscribes to a large number of specialized foreign journals of repute.The Central Library functions between 9.00 A.M and 11.00 P. Apart from the central library every department maintains its own departmental library facility for their staff and PG students. These libraries, in addition to the textbooks in the concerned specialities, maintain specialized journals and magazines also.

Hostel
The college runs a hostel each for the men and women students of the college within the campus at Kadugondanahalli. The hostel buildings with spacious rooms, lounges, recreation room having colour television sets in each of the hostels, with all other modern amenities, are built to ensure comfortable stay of the inmates, and a proper atmosphere for study. The women students hostel, with a view to ensure absolute safety of the inmates, is fenced properly and secured.

Admission to Hostel
Students desirous of availing of the hostel facility must apply to the concerned hostel warden. Applications will be considered by the Principal, in consultation with the warden. The names of the selected applicants will be announced on the respective hostel notice boards before the reopening of the college. The principal has the right to grant or refuse admission to the hostel to any student at his own discretion without assigning any reason for his decision.

Hostel administration :
The administration of each hostel is vested in the respective warden. A separate hostel committee for mens and womens hostel are constituted for administrative purposes. Each committee is formed by the Principal, four senior professors, the wardens and two students representatives residing in the hostel. This committee meets at frequent intervals to review and lay down necessary guidelines to run the hostel efficiently, economically and in a disciplined way.

The Student representatives run the mess in the mens and womens hostel under the supervision and guidance of the warden.

Room allotment:
The allotment of rooms is solely at the discretion of the warden concerned. Boarders shall not change the rooms allotted, to them without the permission of the warden concerned.

A phased programme to develop a 1000 bed hospital on the campus, as well as to develop various super-speciality departments is on the anvil. A State of the Art auditorium and stadium are also planned.In summary, Dr B R Ambedkar Medical College has grown and developed into a centre of excellence in Medical Education and research as evident from the honours, awards and fellowships received by the college and faculty. It is living tribute to Bharatha Rathna Dr. B. R. AMBEDKAR, the Father of the Indian Constitution.

HOSPITALS AND OPD
The college has its own 560 bedded hospital situated in the campus catering to the needs of weaker section of the society and also to satisfy the requirements of Medical Council of India, a statutory body which offers recognition to the Medical courses run by the college. The hospital has most of the specialties including pharmacy, blood bank and physiotherapy to suit the current needs of the patients attending the hospital at an affordable price. The attendance of patients at both out patients and in patients department has been excellent providing a perfect teaching and learning environment to the Medical, Nursing and other Paramedical students in addition to clinical research. ELIGBILITY, HOW TO APPLY

Those who have passed the two year Pre-University course examination conducted by the Karnataka Pre-University Board or other equivalent qualifying examinations with physics, Chemistry and Biology as electives with not less than 50% Score in the electives are eligible to seek admission to First Year M.B.B.S Course leading upto the MBBS Degree of the Rajiv Gandhi University of Health Sciences.
The registrar, Rajiv Gandhi University of Health Sciences is the authority to decide equivalence and any information or clarification may be sought directly from the Registrar, Bangalore University, Rajiv Gandhi University of Health Sciences.
ll candidates must appear for a recognised medical entrance examination in order to be considered eligible for admission (Must have a rank, by the competent authority).
The Candidate seeking admission should have completed seventeen years at the time of admission.
The Scheduled Caste and Scheduled Tribe candidates seeking admission should have scored a minimum of 40% in the electives. Otherwise the eligibility conditions remain the same for them also.
The foreign nationals seeking admission to this college have to comply with all the formalities as laid down by the Government of India as in force at the time of application. Even the provisional admissions made of foreign students will be confirmed subject to the approval of the Rajiv Gandhi University of Health Sciences.
An application form seeking admission to the college will have to be made on the prescribed application form sold by the college.

Incompletely or inaccurately filled applications are liable to be rejected.
If the college comes to know of an admission made on the basis of any fraudulent means, the seat will be cancelled.
The applicant will have to quote the Application Number (given on top of the application form) in all his correspondence with the college following submission of the application.
