Dr. Rajendar Prasad Government Medical College

Rai Bahadur Jodhamal Kuthiala, a great philanthropist was instrumental in starting a TB Sanatorium at Tanda which was inaugurated on 21st May 1958 by Dr. Rajendra Prasad, the then President of India. It was self contained complex having all the facilities for patients and the serving doctors and was spread over in 47 acres of land.

The Govt. of Himachal Pradesh decided to open a second Medical College in northern part of the Pradesh and Tanda being the most suitable place in thickly populated district of the State with available land adequate for future expansion was selected. The foundation stone was laid by the then Chief Minister Sh. Virbhadra Singh on 23rd Oct. 1996. After the initial teething problems, the MCI approval was obtained and the first batch of 50 students was admitted in 1999. Since then 10 batches have been admitted and already 5 batches have graduated from this Institution,

The Institution has grown very fast. A number of state of the art buildings have come up viz.a 500 hundred bedded modern hospital and a fantastic, well equipped with gadgets 700 hundred seating capacity auditorium both of which were dedicated to the public by the Hon'ble Chief Minister Prof. P. K. Dhumal on 3rd Oct. 2008. In addition there are four independent hostel buildings a fully air conditioned central library, a spacious para-clinical block, a lecture theaters complex and more than 200 hundred residential units.

Another block for housing Anatomy Department, additional lecture theaters and more than 50 residential quarters are in various stages of completion. Latest sophisticated equipments like 1.5 Tesla MRI, 16 slice CT Scan, Chemiluminiscence micro assay instrument, fully automatic blood chemistry analysers are available and functional apart from several routine use investigative instruments.

Post Graduate course in Internal Medicine, Dermatology and Obstetric and Gynecology has started this year and process to start PG courses in other specialties is on. A process to completely computerize the Institution has been started with the collaboration of NIT Hamirpur. The process is already on to build a stadium and a swimming pool.

As a tribute to the unfortunate demise of one of our beloved student Mr. Aman Satya Kachroo, the College has taken a pledge to make this institution a Zero Ragging Campus and a role model of Rest of India. Introduction
Department of Anesthesia was started in the year 1997 at Dr. RPGMC Hospital, Dharmshala with two faculty members. In the december2007 the department was shifted to Dr. RPGMC Hospital at Tanda and presently the department having seven faculty member. Department is running 8 operation theater in treatment block and sharing ICU with the Medicine Department which is catering whole of the Hospital besides operation theaters. The department is involved in under graduate MBBS, DNB and B.Sc. Anesthesia &OT technique teaching.

Library
The Central Library is located in the middle of the hostels. It is fully air-conditioned and provide peaceful atmosphere to readers. It is one of the beautiful building of the college with provision of all the modern facilities. The separate reading rooms have been provided to the staff and student with proper furniture. The Library is spacious enough to accommodate two hundred & fifty (250) readers with arrangement for separate rooms for Boys / Girls/ Staff.

LIBRARY RESOURCES
Library offers excellent collection of books and Journals of all subjects. Library presently possesses more than Eight thousand & four hundred reference & text books. Latest edition of reference & text books are available in the library. Library has more than Eight hundred bound back vol's of Medical Journals. Library has 300 hundred CD of medical books.

OBJECTIVE OF THE CENTRAL LIBRARY
The main objective of the library is to provide state-of-art facility in term of documents, information peaceful atmosphere that can be helpful in imparting medical education promoting research & development.

LIBRARY SERVICES

• The Library remains open at 8 pm on all working days in summer & 6.30pm in winter
• The Library has an open access system.
• Book bank facilities are being provided to students belonging ST category.
• Internet & Photostat Facilities are provided at nominal cost.
• Latest edition of books are issue to Departmental Library for ready reference.
• Printing facility is also available in the Library. (only for office work)

E-LIBRARY
E-Library is equip with ten terminals of computer with broadband facility and having access to full text of over 2400 National & International journals through ermed consortia .

Rules for Internet user

• User are allowed to use this facility only for academic & educational purpose only and not for personal purpose.
• User will be allowed only with valid I card.
• Depending on the rush in e-library, time constraints may be applied by the library staff on duty.
• All user are required to make LEGIBLE entry in the register kept in the e-library room.
• User are not allowed to make any change in the setting of the computer.
• Downloading of software is not allowed.

DEPARTMENTAL LIBRARY
Every department of this college can borrow few books for ready reference. Only those books , which have more than one copy, can be issued to the department library against the signature of the HOD of the concerned department. Single copy will not be issued. A proper record will have to be kept by the department for these books issued from central library and department will be responsible for them.

EDUSAT
Edusat facility is available in this institute under the IDSP through NICD Delhi.

BOOKS EXHIBITION
Books exhibition arranged every year by publisher as well as book seller in the library hall. Books also purchased for library through exhibition arranged by the successful tenderer.
