The 'Escola Medico Cirurgica da Goa' university was under the Portuguese rule and established in 1842 and renamed as Goa Medical College in 1963. It is the oldest medical college in Asia.
Goa Medical College & Hospital is now situated in Bambolim provides quality services to all people. The Institute of Psychiatry and Human Behavior (Bambolim), the TB and Chest Disease Hospital (St. Inez), The Rural Health and Training Centre (Mandur) and the Urban Health Centre (St. Cruz) form part of the establishment.
The Medical College besides attempting to achieve quality in individual care has been important in training a lot of physicians who are offering yeomen services to the people in Goa and other parts of India and all over the world.

General Rules and Regulations Regularity: students should attend all teaching sessions practical's, clinics, project work, etc. The student must bring journals and study material to lectures and practical classes and wear apron while in the university campuses. The student must have an attendance record of 75 % of theory & practical classes in each term. Then only they will be eligible to appear for I M.B.B.S. examination.
Internal Evaluation the students are expected to attend all the internal tests as scheduled. Score from each test is evaluated and assigned to the internal marks, both in theory and practicals.
The student should get at least 40 % of total internal marks. There will be one preliminary examination in both theory and practical's. The preliminary examination is based on the University pattern.
M.B.B.S. Examination: Upon finishing two semesters I M.B.B.S. examination will be conducted by Gujarat University. The students whose attendance and internal marks are minimum than the requisites or not paid the fees will not be approved to write for I M.B.B.S. examination and they will conduct only after the minimum standards are fulfilled. As per current regulations, maximum four attempts only are permitted at I M.B.B.S. examination.
Extra Curricular Activities: Extra-curricular activities are supported and encouraged by the college. Such actions should not lead to absence from classes. Absence from these classes due to contribution in such activities not specifically accepted by the School and it will be concluded as illegal absence and handled accordingly.
