Trivandrum Medical College is located in Thiruvananthapuram, the capital of Kerala, India. It was established in 1951, and was inaugurated by Jawaharlal Nehru, the first Prime Minister of India. This is the earliest and most famous healthcare institution in Kerala. At the beginning the university was named as the Medical College of Thiruvananthapuram since it was the only medical college in the state. The Medical College houses several hospitals and institutions for clinical training and teaching

Student life and activities
The life of the student in the university is more active and they are given freedom in organizing their study pattern. A degree from the university is more prestigious, and they can learn several experience of the varied clinical training at the Hospital. The class size is very compact and there is an opportunity for interacting with the students. Students are studying not only from the state but also from several parts including Lakshadweep, North East India and other parts of the country. The students may also get admission under the All India quota. There are several transfer students from Karolinska university and other medical schools

The medical school always given international interaction to the students by the famed visitor includes Dr. Alexander Fleming, E. Lundsgaard, Karl Evang, etc. The university also arranged a meeting with the famous personalities like Dr. Rolf M. Zinkernagel, Dr. Sanduk Ruit, Prof. Anil K. Gupta etc. which was organized in 2011

The 6 canteens in and near the hospitals from the areas of student interactions. The Mens Hostel is situated just the outside of the university campus and the Girl's Hostel is near the SAT block. The buses are run by the Parent Teachers Association, between the hospital, the campus and the Hostels.

Medical College
In addition to MBBS course, the university also has PG and diploma courses in 22 disciplines, and super specialty courses in 10 specialties. The institute was under the control of the University of Kerala and now has transferred the control to KUHS Kerala University of Health Sciences.

Central Library
The Central Library contains various administrative offices. The library has the collection of books, journals and periodicals relating to medicine and allied sciences. The Learning Resource Center (LRC) is located within the library and contains internet connections so that the students and staff can use for a nominal fee. The Learning Resource Center was established by the Association of the college.
