Government Medical College Thrissur, established in 1982 is presently one of the leading centers in medical training in Kerala. It is located in in the serene surroundings of Mulagunnathukavu (M.G Kavu) 14 km away from from Thrissur. The clinical departments started functioning in 1983.

Library:
The Central Library, functions under the control of the Government. Healthcare College, Thrissur. The library is designed to provide wellness and medical information to physicians, graduate and post graduate students and researchers of the organization. The large amount of newly released medical literary works available in the central library help the medical community to improve, upgrade, assess medical care.

Medical courses:
Each year 123 students are enrolled in the MBBS degree, from Uttar Pradesh and All India Entrance Examinations. The graduate course is propagated over four and a half years separated into three phases.

In the I & II Semesters the students are taught subjects of Anatomy, Physiology and Biochemistry also they are introduced to Community medicine. The examination also held on these relevant subjects.

On completing all these subjects the students can enter the Para-clinical phase. It is one and half a years (Semester III to V). This semester covers the subjects of Pathology, Microbiology, pharmacology, Forensic Medicine & Toxicology and Preventive Medicine / Community Medicine. After clearing all these subjects students can appear in next University examination i.e. final Prof-Part I.

During these 2 years it covers the subjects like Orthopaedics, Ophthalmology, E.N.T., Community Medicine, Medicine, Surgery, Obstetrics & Gynaecology are taught. In these periods the student should understand the concepts of Clinical subjects. The teaching and training includes all aspects of patient care and Research.
