About:
Government Medical College and Hospital are situated in Chandigarh, India. This teaching hospital was started in the already existing PGIMER and Government Hospital, since there is increased patient influx.
Since there is increasing population, a second 500-bedded Hospital had been introduced for serving the needs of sufferers in the south and for the patients from Panchkula and SAS Nagar. The Postgraduate Institute of Medical Education & Research was considered as a center for the northern states of India.
Apart from this Punjab University and the Postgraduate Institute of Medical Education & Research the city doesn't have a Medical College. GMC provides opportunity to the talented students of Chandigarh also who want to pursue their career in medicine.
History
Government Medical College & Hospital (GMCH), was founded in 1991. In the beginning the college had approved 50 students. The college and the hospital are fully computerized in the public sector, which facilitates the hospital management and the administration. The institution is environment friendly and patient friendly. The university is admitting students not only from the Chandigarh state but also from neighboring states as well.
Recognition:
The college has an excellent and experienced quality member's in both basic and clinical departments. The medical college is recognized in 1996 by Govt. Of India, Ministry of Health & Family Welfare, and by the Medical Council of India.
