Howard University College of Medicine
Established in 1868, the Howard university train the students to become qualified and sympathetic doctors who provide medical care in a clinic under served communities. Although the university offers research training opportunities, the medical school mainly focuses on the health care of the people in the areas where there is a lot of shortages of physicians and health professionals.
There are living 4000 student testimonials who get excellent education and serves for the welfare of the society. Although many educational institutions have given many opportunities for minority students, the Howard medical school uniquely addresses medically underserved communities and constantly produce a significant number of the country's community doctors.
Financial Aid:
Before applying for the medical school each student must evaluate a budget while they're studying at the college. They should also include tuition fees, books, equipment, rent, food, transportation, and other personal expenses. The student should ensure to reduce expenses, such as sharing a residence with a roommate
The Financial aid for international students are extremely limited. Therefore, the international students must make financial arrangements before arriving.
Library:
Circulation & Reserves
The library applies strict rules to all borrowers of HSL materials, including faculty, students, and staff. Who borrow the materials at HSL must register in the Circulation system. HSL offers assistance to the students of disabilities. The Faculty will also make reserve materials for specific classes.
Photocopy Service
The Library has two photocopying machines and the students should do it on their own. The copiers need vend cards on which the money is printed on them. The starting rate of vend cards is five dollars ($5.00) and not to exceed $25.00 per vend card. These are available at the HU Bookstore as well as the lab.
Kaplan Multimedia Computer Lab
There are 25 computers in the Dr. Harold J. Kaplan Multimedia and Presentation Room that can be used to access Internet, word processing etc. Printers are not available in the library.
Services for the Handicapped
To get material from the library may be arranged through the Reference Department. The visually handicapped students may have a separate study room with readers or cassette players.
Hospital:
Howard University Hospital is one of America's best hospitals. The services of Howard Hospital dates back to 1862. Initially the hospital was called the Freedmen's Hospital and provided a treatment to the ex-slaves where they denied elsewhere.
In 1860s, the Freedmen's hospital formed a partnership with the Howard University to train African-American medical professionals. Both the school and the hospital trained many of the top African-American physicians.
Over 145 years of its service, Howard University Hospital has become one of the most extensive health care facilities in the Washington, D.C. and declared as a Level 1 Trauma Center. In April 2007, the Hospital ranked number one on 19 quality measures published by the U.S. Health and Human Services Department.
HUH is the country's only teaching hospital which provides an excellent learning environment to take part in clinical and research work with professionals.
Exchange Students:
The Student transfer opportunities are available to fourth-year medical students. The university can accept other U.S. and Canadian medical schools which are recognized by the Liaison Committee. Clinical trainings offer a special opportunity for the students to keep in touch with other medical students in the period of clinical training.
