Institute of Medical Sciences & Sum Hospital was established in the year 2005 with an objective of delivering quality health care in a cost-effective manner to the people of one of the least urbanised states of India. As an adjunct to health care it is committed to provide high standards of undergraduate and post graduate Medical education commensurate with international standards, bringing together educational facilities for training of personnel of all cadres in all branches of health care in order to attain self sufficiency in Medical Education.

It provides value-based medical education, helping students attain the competence and character required to live up to the highest principles of the healthcare profession.

IMS &SUM Hospital stands as an edifice of solemnity and assurance, overlooked by the meditative KHANDAGIRI Hills as a part of a larger campus that comprises of a dental college, a nursing college, a pharmacy and biotechnology college, a school of business administration among others. The campus is located in a beautiful picturesque surroundings adjoining, historical monuments KHANDAGIRI & UDAYAGIRI caves amidst lush greenery secluded from the chaos and pollution of the city, making an ideal location for a health resort.

The Ministry of Health and Family Welfare, Govt. of India has approved admission of students to MBBS course from the academic session 2007-08 and the first batch of post graduate students was admitted in the year 2011. Ever since granted permission to offer MBBS programme in 2007, the institute has been adding value to medical education and research with the first batch of students of MBBS, achieving TOP POSITION in their first professional examination at the University level. The country needs more doctors and paramedics to serve the demographic growth in India. IMS has an embedded objective of providing need based preventive, promotive and curative community services.

Siksha O Anusandhan Deemed to be University, with eight institutes committed to quality education and research in their respective subjects, has been in the forefront of quality education keeping in mind the global industrial needs.

The University understands this and has been happily responding to the trends and demands of the present era. It has adopted a dynamic approach to address the changing needs of students. The teaching, learning and evaluation processes in all the eight institutes have been geared towards this end.The Institute of Medical Sciences and SUM Hospital, where 100 students get admission to study medicine every year, has turned out to be a people-centric facility catering to the needs of scores of people daily even as the faculty, researchers and doctors endeavour to break new grounds in treating patients.

The newly opened Pain Clinic, Psoriasis Clinic and Geriatric Assessment Clinic in the hospital are designed to aid people in physical distress while the addition of a Cath Lab has been timely. The University renews its commitment to its vision and mission.

Dean's Message
Institute of Medical Sciences & SUM Hospital under the aegis of Siksha O Anusandhan University has uneventfully crossed the neonatal period and now is in the toddler phase. It is a healthy baby, properly groomed, adequately nourished and well communed. It has lived to its expectation and has made a name in quality education, ensuring an academic ambience, stimulating and encouraging the research environment and ultimate delivering an excellent health care to the society at large.

Medical education is a continuous process. Beginning from Charak and Srushut and today in the age of Telemedicine and Stem cell research medical education is an all-cumulative and never-ending process. Every age the pioneers of medical education leave their footprints in the sands of time and the next generation follows it and the society gets the fruit of the efforts of those visionary pioneers. The time has come to reconcile their efforts. Keeping these ethos in mind, the medical curriculum has evolved and has been introduced from the beginning the first phase of present medical education system when a student enters into the portal of a medical college.

Education opens a door to light and opportunity. Presently the aim of medical education is something much more. It not only has to make the society disease free but to bring in the state for awareness to the public to have a healthy mind and body and to keep the environment conducive to live in.

A Medical Education Institution has stupendous task to fulfil the dreams and demands of the society.
