About BEA
Bapuji Educational Association was established in 1958 as a brain child of a few visionaries with an intention to impart basic education facilitates to the dominantly rural citizen of Davangere and its surroundings.

Through the efforts of a number of Luminaries and Philanthropists the Association has grown enormously by establishing a chain of educational institutions in almost every discipline from primary to higher education. The vision and constant efforts of its present Hon. Secretary Dr. Shamanur Shivashankarappa the association is at its zenith and made Davangere a Mecca of education.

Jagadguru Jayadeva Murugarajendra Medical College, Davanagere , Karanataka, India was established in the year 1965. It is premiere Institute of the Association imparting Allopathic Medical Education leading to Undergraduate, Postgraduate Degree and Diploma Courses. It is currently affiliated to Rajiv Gandhi University of Health Sciences, Karnataka, Bangalore. The M.B.B.S., Postgraduate Degree and Diploma courses offered by the Institution are RECOGNISED by the MEDICAL COUNCIL OF INDIA.

The institution is striving hard to develop a health task force at all levels of health care delivery system through the various government as well as own hospitals.

Scheme of Examinations
a) Internal Assessment:
20% / 30% of the total marks in the subject are earmarked.
It will be based on evaluation of assignment, presentation of seminar, clinical presentation, etc., Regular, periodical examinations will be conducted throughout the course. Although number of examinations are conducted the candidate should write atleast three sessional examinations during the course of study in each phase and the average of best two examination marks will be taken into consideration while calculating the marks of the Internal Assessment. The candidate(s) should maintain day to day records, which will be scrutinized by the examiners.

b) University Examinations:

  • Phase I - Anatomy, Physiology and Biochemistry at the end of II term. The candidate shall pass in all the subjects to be eligible to go to Phase II.
  • Phase II - Pathology, Microbiology, Pharmacology, Forensic Medicine & Toxicology at the end of 1 and Half years three terms of study of 6 months each in Phase II.
  • Phase III - Part I: In the seventh term of Phase III in the subjects of Community Medicine, Ophthalmology and Otorhinolaryngology.
  • Phase III - Part II (Final Examination): At the end of 9th term 07 terms clinic study in the subjects of Medicine, Surgery including Orthopedics, Obstetrics & Gynecology and Pediatrics.
Passing of Phase III Part I examination subjects is compulsory for being eligible for Phase III Part II examinations.

Criteria of Pass:
For declaration of pass at the University examinations, a candidate shall pass in both Theory & Practical / Clinical examinations separately in the same examination obtaining 50% in aggregate with a minimum of 50% in Theory including orals, 50% of minimum in Practical / Clinical in each of subject.

Declaration of Class:
A successful candidate obtaining 65% of marks or more but less than 75% of marks in the aggregate of all the subjects of the examination in the 1st attempt will be declared to have passed the examination in FIRST CLASS.

Successful candidates obtaining 75% of marks or more in the aggregate of all the subjects of examination in the 1st attempt will be declared to have passed the examination in DISTINCTION.

A candidate obtaining 50% and more but less than 65% of the marks in the Grand Total Aggregate in the 1st attempt will be declared to have passed the examination in SECOND CLASS.

The candidate passing a University examination in more than one attempt will be declared in PASS CLASS irrespeative of the percentage of marks secured by him or her in the examination.

Attendance:
  • Candidate shall keep a minimum of 80% attendance in each term to be eligible to appear for the final University examinations.
  • Candidate pursuing degree course shall write Theses/Dissertation on the subject taken/allotted under the guidance of a faculty member.
  • Four copies of the Theses/Dissertation shall be submitted along with a C.D. to the University six months before the commencement of University examinations.

Postgraduate Degree and Diploma Courses
a) Eligibility:
i) Candidate should have obtained MBBS Degree from a MCI recognized institution.
ii) Candidate should have completed one year compulsory rotating internship after passing final professional examination on or before 30th April of the Academic year.

Duration:
Degree Course: 36 Months
Diploma Course: 24 Months
Candidate who have passed Diploma examination in the same subject, when he or she takes up Degree Course in the same Subject the duration of study will be 24 months.

Library
It is situated on the III and IV Floor of Bapuji OPD Block. The Library & Information Centre has vast area which accommodates 1500 readers at a time. Separate reference areas for faculty, postgraduate and undergraduate students has been provided. Personal book reading sections are made available.
S.S. Digital Library is the latest addition to the center providing Internet facilities with V-SAT connectivity and 25 terminals for the users.

The central Audio-Visual and photography department comes under the Library & Information Centre. It has facilities for Multimedia Projection, Slides and Overhead Projects. It has 04 qualified artists & photographers. This section meets the needs of all the departments.

The Library & Information Center has a total collection of 26,008 books, 12,372 back and bound volumes. It subscribes for 302 current periodicals.
The department is headed by Dr. P.S.Mahesh, Ph.D., with more than 25 years of experience and assisted by 05 Assistant Librarians, 08 Library Assistants and 18 Assistants. It renders Computerized MEDLINE Search Service, bibliographical, SDI and CAS Services to the users.
