Since the Government is finding difficult to fulfill all the needs in medical education, the Safe Development Alms Trust, Palakkad has entered the scene of Medical Education. The trust has started the Karuna Hospital at Vilayodi, Chittur in the year 2004 and entered the Medical Education field in the year 2006 by starting Karuna Medical College as a part of Karuna Institute of Medical Sciences

To establish a Centre of Excellence for providing value-added medical education that combines effective teaching, focused academic exposure, productive research with the aim of training healthcare personnel with professionalism and spirit of love and service to the human being as their hallmarks.

Mission:
We are constantly recruiting brilliant staff and provide state-of-the art infrastructure in an eco-friendly and peaceful ambience with a view to give a challenge to the students to become forward-looking, with leadership qualities dedicated doctors imbibed with compassionate love towards all, especially the poor and the downtrodden people.

Dr. M.N. SREE RAM, MD, FICR, FIMSA, is alumnus of JIMPER. After joining the Armed Forces Medical Services, he pursued his MD (Radio Diagnosis) at the prestigious Armed Forces Medical College (AFMC) . After serving in various Army Hospitals as a Consultant, Dr. M.N. Sree Ram pursued his Super Specialisation in Imaging at Breach Candy Hospital, Jaslok Hospital and Bombay Hospital at Bombay.

He had a further stint at Germany in the largest Cancer Hospital of Europe. Subsequently he headed the Department of Radio Diagnosis and Imaging at Armed Forces Medical College (AFMC) Pune & Army College of Medical Sciences (ACMS) Delhi. He has extensive administrative experience in both Hospital work and Executive work at the helm of Hospital and Health Services.

The Karuna Hospital is a 500 bedded Hospital with fully qualified and well experienced faculty. It has excellent infrastructure with a dedicated team of Health care Professionals. This Hospital is affiliated to the Karuna Institute of Medical Sciences and it is situated in the Karuna Medical College Campus.

The Hospital is having various specialities such as Medicine, Surgery, Obstetrics & Gyanaecology, Paediatrics, Orthopaedics, Dermatology, Psychiatry, Ophthalmology, Otorhinolaryngology, Anaesthesiology, Radiology and Emergency Medicine.

The Karuna Medical College Hospital is having a well supported and sophisticated Blood Bank to serve the patients who are in need of Blood. The patients hail from localities in and around Chittur taluk, Palakkad District and some of them are from neighbouring state of Tamilnadu also. Many of the Patients belonging to the lower economic strata are given treatment at subsidized rates and also most of the below poverty line people are treated free of cost.

EMERGENCY AND CASUALTY HOSPITAL SERVICE
A 24-hour Emergency Casualty Service is provided Ambulance and Resuscitation Service with Most Modern equipments for Emergency Treatment and trauma Care.

AIR CONDITIONED OPERATION THEATRE COMPLEX
Twelve Air - Conditioned Operation Theatre is provided to deal major and minor Surgical Cases with ultra modern fecilities and equipments.

INTENSIVE CARE UNIT (ICU & ICCU)
Air Conditioned Intensive Care Unit is provided for Medical, Surgical, Paediatric and Gynacological sections.

HOSPITAL LABORATORY SERVICE
A 24 - Hour Clinical Laboratory is provided with Bio -chemistry, Microbiology, Hematology, Serology departments and facility for discarded Specimen disinfections and disposal. Central Laboratory with 24 hr function.Clinical Laboratory with Bio-Chemistry,Micro-Biology and Clinical Pathology is provided with Most Modern equipments

SPECIAL SERVICES
The Urban unit of Karuna Medical College is a 150 beded Multy Specialty Hospital located at Palakkad and established a Palliative Care Centre to maintain quality of life by love and Sincerity and control pain and symptoms reduced by treatment besides offering psycho support to the patient and family. During the period of last seven years so many patients have a shelter under this palliative care centre. The patients are treated in this centre entirely free of charge including investigation and medicines.

Library
The Central Library of Karuna Medical College has excellent facilities and ample space with lights for quiet reading. There are separate study space both for Fcaulty and Students.

The Central Library attached to the Karuna Medical College , Vilayodi,Chittur,Palakkad, is housed in a magnificent structure having two floors comprising an area of 2000 sq meters with accommodation of 350 seats for student reading, 50 seats for journal reading ,50 seats for staff reading and 50 seats for own book reading. It has a comprehensive collection of Books in all branches of Medical and Allied subjects.

The Library also has a good collection of Audio, Video and CD-Rom materials. The library also subscribes to a wide variety of National Journals and International Journals besides e-journals viz MEDLARS and DML (Digital Medical Library) through LAN (Local Area Network).The OPAC (Online Public Access Catalog) system provides easy access to the Database of books and journals. This library also provides services of Question Bank, Back Dated Journals, Clinics, Refrographic and Internet services.

The library has a proposal to start Book Bank for the benefit of the students from the economically weaker sections with an exclusive collection of 1000 Volumes.

Sports
Sports is an integrate part of life for the students at Karuna Medical College. A large play ground is situated near the Hostel Buildings with serene atmosphere. There are separate play grounds for Foot Ball, Cricket, Volley Ball and others.

A well equipped gymnasium is also available.

A separate Hall is available for Indoor Games such as Table Tennis, Chess and Carom. Sports activities are co-ordinated by a qualified Physical Director
