This website belongs to Madurai medical college 1982-1988 batch students. We are a notorious gang of 180 students where the boys and girls always fought with each other! Some of our prominent gang members are still being remembered by the hostel wardens, watchmen and the petty shop owners.

Only after we left the college we realised that those fights were because of sibling rivalry and we indeed deeply like each other. Since then we always make every effort to meet and maintain in touch which was proven by our successful reunions in 2002,2007 and 2010. Our silver jubilee reunion at Kodaikanal in 2007 was one of the most successful in the history of our college with a turnover of nearly 100 batch mates. Our most recent reunion in August 2010 at Trivandrum was another grand success attended by 75 members with their families. Our classmates are spread all over India and abroad including USA and UK.

The main purpose of this site is for the Madurai medical college 1982 batch mates to share their present and past memories through the discussion forum, but we invite every past and present student from this famous institution to enjoy this site as it contains some interesting photos and videos and information for not just for our batch but for everyone. Unfortunately some areas are restricted only to those belonging to the 1982 batch for reasons of confidentiality, But we hope this site will stimulate other batches to start similar ones and to bring lots of joy to everyone.

This was easily the biggest of all our reunions so far. It was also very special as it was our silver jubilee year ( 1982-2007).It was held on 11 and 12 August 2007 in Kodaikanal. The venue was Hotel Kodai International which is one of the biggest hotels in Kodaikanal. But the final number of delegates reached well over 100 families that some of them had to be accommodated in a 2nd hotel close to the main venue. The function started off with a great lunch followed by kids games. The main event was in the evening where everyone introduced themselves ( and their families) in the same alphabetical order as it was during our college days. There was also a fantastic cultural programme in the night.

Photographs were taken on day 2 followed by very informal session where every member shared their present and past memories.

The participants were so excited that the overwhelming majority wanted similar reunions to be held every 3 years. Selvakumar Kingslin kindly agreed to be the main organiser for the next reunion in 2010.

One of the main reasons for the grand success was due to the hard work of the chief organiser Kulandaivelu who was ably supported by Sangumani and Neethiraj. Lets all give them a big toast.

It will be held in Chennai .The organisers are Latchumanadhas, Ramesh Babu , Nellaiappar and without any doubt , Neethiraj. Anyone else who is based in Chennai are welcome to contribute by contacting any one of the above members. The exact dates will be announced sometime in 2012.This will be another important reunion as it celebrates 25 years since we have completed our house surgeon posts and became fully qualified medical practitioners in 1988. ( well, only a few of us managed to complete the course on time as our batch was hit for a six during the final year exams!).

This was our batchs first reunion after graduation .It was conducted at The gateway hotel (Taj group) in Madurai . Though it was relatively a small gathering it gave impetus to organise our silver jubilee reunion in 2007. About 40 of our batchmates gathered on an evening and shared their warm memories.

It was held on 7th and 8th of August 2010 at the Travancore heritage beach resort near Thiruvananthapuram. The format of the function was slightly modified from the previous reunion in order to give more time to the participants to reminisce the college days on day 2. Therefore the photographic session was held on day 1.

The guests started arriving by noon of 07/08/2010.They were greeted in a typical Kerala tradition with application of pottu on the forehead and offering tender coconut. After checking in at the very comfortable cottages a sumptuous buffet was served. Then there was time for the guests to relax in the beach or swimming pools until 5pm.The forecourt was buzzing with conversations such as Mappilai, thala mudi ellam enge pochuda? and Enna panrathu, udambu peruthukittae poguthu!

The photographic session was challenging to organise due to the vast campus where the cottages are scattered and the children would rather play in the pool than smiling at the cameras! Thanks to all who had been waiting patiently until everyone arrived. Then nice tea was served very close to the shamiana.

The main function started around 0630 pm with a kadavul vaazhthu by our batch Isai kuyil Caroline Geetha. We also observed a minute of silence as a mark of respect to the departed souls of Arumugam and Kalyani Chandrashekar. Then each and everyone introduced themselves and their families. This has always been a hilarious session with lots of sarcastic comments from the audience.

Moorthy and Saigopalakrishnan made it more exciting with their wits. Small breaks during this introduction session were filled in by childrens cultural programme. The final session of the day was dinner and dance (and drinks for a few!).Ramanathan has kindly sponsored fireworks display which went on and on and on. until we ran out of time. There was also an excellent orchestra and dance performance by a troupe from Trivandrum.

The second day started off with a lavish breakfast and completion of unfinished photos. A few people such as Lakshmana Das joined us on that morning (He flew from Japan the previous day). Then we spent the next 3-4 hours on Malarum Ninaivugal where most of the batchmates shared their warm memories of our college days with everyone .Carolin Sathya has organised some mini games and competitions which were awesome! Bhavani husband Ravikumar was chosen as the Mr Madurai medicos 1982 after a stiff competition involving catwalk and interview!!

The function came to end with the national anthem. After another fulfilling lunch it was time to say good bye to each other. We all left the Travancore heritage resort with a warm heart and wet eyes.

One final word : The dad of Selvakumar Kingslin who is the chief organiser of this function, sadly passed away the day before (06/08/10) the reunion after a prolonged illness. It came as a very big shock to all of us but Kingslin, as ever remained composed and somehow managed to attend the funeral and also the function. May his soul rest in peace!
