Moti Lal Nehru Medical College (MLN Medical College or MLNMC) is a medical school in that was founded in memory of Pt.

Stories of Nehru's great wealth and luxury and of even greater sacrifice of it all for the country are still told. He was born on 6 May 1861 in as the third and youngest son of Pandit Ganga Dhar Nehru (Ganga Dhar was actually a Muslim, who had rechristened himself as a Kashmiri Pandit to escape British Army wrath) who was the City Kotwal o before the historical struggle for freedom in 1857.

After primary education of Arabic and Persian at home he received formal education at Government Inter- College, Kanpur and Muir Central College, Allahabad. His name was registered in the list of lawyers of Allahabad High Court in 1883 and that of advocates in 1886.

On 7 November 1854, Leslie Hudson., a member of raised a question about British Government's plan to open medical colleges in India which was under the rule of then. Replying to that, Sir Charles Wood, the minister concerned announced that by 1861 medical colleges would be opened in five cities of India, namely Bombay, Calcutta, Madras, Lahore and Allahabad. Pt.Moti Lal Nehru was the chief spokesperson of the deputation that called on Lord Curzon ,the then Viceroy of India ,on 17-11-1904 at Allahabad in leadership of Pt. Madan Mohan Malviya.

During this meet Pt. Moti Lal Nehru reminded the Viceroy of the promise made by the British Government 50 years back and told him that it was a matter of deep regret that there was no medical college in Allahabad which at that time was the capital of United Province (re-named as Uttar Pradesh after independence).

It was to honour Pt. Nehru's great efforts and will that MotiLal Nehru Medical College was formally inaugurated on 5 May 1961 by Honorable President of India, Dr, just one day prior to Nehru's 100th birthday, and a century after the proposed time by the British Govt. Initially the premises of the British District Jail at were acquired for the college. Pt. Moti Lal Nehru was kept imprisoned there in 1930 during British rule for his leading role in the freedom movement and released only after severe illness, which resulted into his death on 6 February 1931.

This jail is also well known for who was sentenced to death here in the Later, in 1963, the Government House, which used to be residence of the Governor of United Province in British era, was acquired for the college while the jail premises were transformed into Swaroop Rani Nehru Hospital of today(named after Pt.Moti Lal Nehru's wife). A part of the original jail barracks still remain as P.W.D. storehouse in the hospital premises and can easily be seen from the New P. G. Hostel.

Today the college is recognised by Medical Council of India for imparting medical education of undergraduate and post graduate degree /diploma level in various specialities.

Every year a batch of 100 students is admitted to the first year of MBBS degree course of the college through an entrance test conducted by the Government of Uttar Pradesh.Similarly admissions to various postgraduate courses are also taken through similar entrance test organised by the government.

Duration of MBBS Course :
The total duration of MBBS Course is 4 and half years plus one year internship. The 4 and half years course is divided into 9 semesters. The duration of PG degree is 3 years. The Duration of PG Diploma is two years.

Teaching and Learning Methods :
The MBBS teaching consists of didactic lectures, seminars, group discussions and inter departmental lectures. Very good opportunities are provided for teacher student inter action. The ultimate goal is to train a physician who is capable of looking after the preventive, promotive, curative & rehabilitative aspects of medicine. The internal assessment carries 20% marks. The final assessment carries 80% Marks. The examinations and evaluation are conducted by NTR University of Health sciences. The Degrees awarded by NTR University of Health sciences are recognized throughout the world.

Non Clinical Departments :
The Medical College is having Anatomy, Physiology and Biochemistry Departments in the A Module. The Lecture Galleries, Demonstration rooms, Departmental libraries, and laboratories are as per MCI norms. All the lecture Galleries are air conditioned.

Para clinical Departments :
The Departments of Pharmacology, Pathology, Microbiology, Forensic Medicine and Community Medicine are having all facilities for under graduate and Post graduate training.

Clinical Departments :
The Departments of General Medicine, General Surgery, Obstetrics and Gynecology, Pediatrics, Orthopedics, ENT, Ophthalmology, Dermatology, TB and chest Diseases, Psychiatry, Radio Diagnosis, and anesthesia are located in the teaching Hospital. These departments are having very good infrastructure for teaching and to tackle all Medical and Surgical Emergencies.

Any other examination of 10+2 pattern recognized by the Dr. NTR University in Andhra Pradesh or Board of Intermediate Education, Andhra Pradesh, with Physics, Chemistry and Biology as optional subjects, which shall include a practical test in each of these subjects.

The pre-professional / premedical examination with Physics, Chemistry and Biology, after passing either the higher secondary school examination or the Pre-University or an equivalent examination. The pre-professional / pre-medical examination shall include a practical test in Physics, Chemistry & Biology and also English as a compulsory subject.

The first year of the three years degree course of a recognized University, with Physics, Chemistry and Biology including practical test in these subjects provided the examination is a University Examination and candidate has passed 10+2 with English at a level not less than a core course.

B.Sc., Examination of an Indian University, provided that he / she has passed the B.Sc., examination with not less than two of the following subjects Physics, Chemistry, Biology (Botany, Zoology) and further that he / she has passed the earlier qualifying examination with the following subjects Physics, Chemistry, Biology and English.

Any other examination whose scope and standard is found to be equivalent to the Intermediate science examination of an Indian University / Board, taking Physics, Chemistry and Biology including a practical test in each of these subjects and English.

Facilities
Library :
A Modern air conditioned library is available. It has more than 12,000 books and about 50,000 numbers of journals. The College subscribes to 70 Indian Journals and 38 Foreign Journals. Besides the College is having access to 600 online journals. The library is having tie up with Dr NTR University of Health Sciences for online Digital Library services.

Hostels : The Male students and female students are having separate Hostels with attached kitchens and Dining Halls. There is a separate Air conditioned Hostel to accommodate NRI students. All the Hostels are having 24 hours water supply and Electricity. The food prepared in the kitchens is wholesome and tasty. A wide range of cuisine is available.

Cafeteria :
A modern 24 hours cafeteria is available in the campus near the Hospital building. A wide variety of snacks and refreshments are available in the canteen.

Generators :
The Campus is having generators with a total capacity of 750 KVA to provide uninterrupted power supply to the entire campus.

Campus Security :
More than 100 cameras are installed in the campus and they are connected to central CCTVs to monitor all the areas of the Medical college and Hospital. A number of security personnel were employed to offer round the clock security in the campus.

ATM Counter :
The Punjab National Bank is operating an ATM Counter in the premises of the Hospital. Besides, there are facilities for postal and courier services and reservation facilities for train, air and bus travel.

Hospital
ASRAM Hospital is the attached teaching Hospital of ASRAM Medical College. It is having 900 teaching beds and 120 intensive care beds. The Hospital is also having 320 super specialty beds. The Medical College and the teaching Hospital are located in a vast campus located just 6 km from Eluru town which is the District Head quarters of West Godavari District in Andhra Pradesh.

The Hospital is the only tertiary care Hospital attached to Medical College in West Godavari District. The aim is to establish an excellent health care system and service that is accessible and responsive to the needs of all people of the region. The hospital is state of the art medical centre with sophisticated equipment providing comprehensive medical care with the help of highly qualified specialists and super specialists.

Tele Medicine Centre :
The Hospital is running a Tele medicine centre. The emphasis is on telemedicine, teleconsultation, training, teleradiology, teletraumatology and emergency tele medicine. The ultimate aim is to extend the telemedicine solutions to the entire district.

Aarogyasri :
The hospital is recognized as a net work Hospital for Aarogyasri programmes. During 2008-2009, 1600 patients were treated and about 1200 surgeries were performed under Aarogyasri Scheme. So far more than 6000 cases were treated under Aarogyasri scheme.

Referral Hospital :
The Hospital is recognized by Government of Andhra Pradesh as a Referral Hospital for treatment of State Government Employees, Pensioners and MLAs. Several other organizations like BSNL, New India Assurance company have recognized the Hospital for treatment of their patients.

Infrastructure
The magnificent college building is built according to Indian Nursing Council (INC) norms. Nursing labs namely Fundamental, Medical and surgical, Obstetrics and Gynecology, Pediatrics, CHN, Nutrition and Computer labs are well equipped allowing the students to learn their procedures perfectly. Classrooms are spacious, well ventilated and well furnished with OHP, LCD projectors etc. The Gigantic library with wide ranging collection of books both on nursing and other fields acts as a storehouse of knowledge. All the students have easy access to library. The huge examination hall can easily provide seating arrangement for a whopping 200 students at single sitting.

Libraries are centrally situated inside the campus of all the colleges. They have more than Twelve thousand books written by Indian and foreign authors on different subjects as per the syllabus issued by the University. National Newspapers in Hindi and English are subscribed in the libraries. Libraries also subscribe important News Magazines and professional journals of repute.

Documentation Unit files special features on various subjects. Keeping in view advanced pattern of learning, collection of some important films concerning different subjects is kept in the libraries.
