The Institute of Pharmacy has been established with a view to promote excellence in pharmaceutical education and to prepare young men and women to meet the challenges in the area of pharmaceutical industries, education, research and development and marketing. We aim to provide degree, postgraduate, doctoral and postdoctoral level education at this centre of excellence. The pharmacy profession in Gujarat and western part of India has been striving for such a centre and establishment of IP. has come at such a time when the pharmaceutical industry and education are poised to face global challenges and changed perspectives.

Hence, it is the duty of all stakeholders to ensure that educational efforts made result in individuals who can provide the service to society by practising with the highest possible standards of professionalism and expertise. We have therefore framed the following objectives for the IP.
The Library at Institute of Pharmacy houses more than 6603 volumes of books selectively chosen for reading and reference. The collection includes resources relevant to teaching, learning, training, research and consultancy needs of the Institute. About 68 printed national, 34 international periodicals and 148 e-Journals are subscribed to so that the participants keep themselves updated with the trends in the Pharmacy. The collection includes resources relevant to teaching, learning, training, and research needs of the Institute.
An user-friendly library software called Alice For Windows (AfW) has been adopted at the Library Resource Center so as to make it fully automated. This internationally popular software facilitates automated circulation (issue & return) of the books and speedy access to bibliographies, locations and availability information of the books stocked in the library.
A web-based catalogue is also available on the internet for inquiring about the books. In addition to this the software facilitates biometric identification of users, provided efficient resource management system and generates useful management information for effective decision-making.
Apart from this, the institute library has also adopted latest information technology mediums like CD, DVD, Multimedia Kits, The Library is implementing RFID Security Sytem, which has a great potential for performing multiple applications that combines security and item identification in a single tag and reduces library losses by providing effective library direction systems.
RFID helps the Library staff to provide other information services to the users, as it saves time of the staff by providing a platform to automate most of the processes performed by the library staff like Check in Check out, sorting, stock management and inventory. The current applications of RFID in Library setup include:
Research Laboratory
