OMC History
The development of Oman Medical College was an important milestone in Oman's march towards provision of world-class healthcare in the country. The creation of Oman Medical College has fulfilled Oman's need for opening new avenues for medical education.

The starting of Oman Medical College in the private sector was in tune with the vision and directives of His Majesty Sultan Qaboos bin Said. Dr. P. Mohammed Ali, the Managing Director of Galfar group of companies conceptualized this initiative in the year 2000 and took it forward with the approval of the Ministry of Higher Education and secured the academic partnership with the School of Medicine of West Virginia University in the United States of America. OMC began its first year of operations on October 1, 2001 with an incoming class of 69 students enrolled for the premedical education program.

The Government of Oman has extended unqualified support to the project by sponsoring a large number of Omani students, giving free land, and above all, by dedicating the Sohar Regional Hospital as the teaching hospital of the Oman Medical College.

Foundation Program
Oman Medical College (OMC) Foundation prepares post secondary level students to succeed in programs offered by Oman Medical College and College of Pharmacy and Health Sciences. Conforming to the Oman Academic Standards for the General Foundation Programs, the OMC Foundation program addresses four key areas required for academic success: English, IT, Mathematics and Study Skills. In addition to these modules, the program also addresses the specific language needs of health sciences students.

Students who are admitted into OMC programs are given placement tests in English, Math and IT during the Orientation Week. These tests will help in assessing and placing you in the Foundation Program or Direct level Entry to Medicine and Pharmacy Programs.

Mission of the Pharmacy Program
The mission of Pharmacy programme in Oman Medical College is to train pharmacists to enable them to serve society as a professional responsible for appropriate use of medications and devices by the patients, to provide public education services, to monitor and manage activities related to medication regimen, to provide services in Pharmaceutical companies in field of quality as well as regulatory control, formulation development, and management of sales.

Goals & objectives of the Medical and Pharmacy Programs
To prepare all students for the study and practice of medicine in English.
To provide students with the basic science and clinical knowledge required for the study and practice of medicine.
To improve student's use of information technology and computer applications.
To help students become self-directed learners.
To foster student's curiosity and inquisitiveness.
To prepare students for a lifelong commitment to other persons, their communities and their country.
