Pt J.N.M. Medical College Raipur came in to existence on 9th September 1963 when the college was started with 60 students in a small OPD block of Ayurvedic College. The college received recognition from Medical Council of India in 1969. MBBS seats were increased from 100 to 150 in the year 2009 vide Govt of India, Ministry of Health & Family Welfare letter No. F NO U 12012/873/2008-ME(PII) Dated 14th July 2009

P.G. courses were started in the year 1971-72. At present the college admits 60 students per year for MD/MS and 21 students for two year diploma courses in the various departments.

On 30th September 1976, the construction of the new college building in its present location was completed with four modern lecture theatre fully equipped with audio visual facility, dissection halls, laboratories, a very well stocked library and complete indoor and out door sports facilities. The college has a 650 seated Auditorium besides the main building.

It is the venue for most of the scientific, social and cultural gatherings round the year due to its ample capacity and central location. Apart from academic activities the student body actively participates in various extra curricular activities like sports, fine arts, literary events, drama, dances etc. during its annual function held during November-December every year.

Until 1995 the local district hospital (D. K. Hospital) was attached to the college as the teaching hospital. In the year 1995, 700 bedded Dr. B.R. Ambedkar Memorial Hospital came into existence in the college campus and was officially affiliated to the college as the teaching hospital. Pt J.N.M. Medical College is the only tertiary level medical and health institution which provides specialty health services to the approximate 2 crore population of the state of Chhattisgarh. The OPD service runs daily from 8.30 am to 1.30 pm, except Sunday, with 24 hours emergency services. Average daily OPD attendance is more than 900 patients with more than 100 major and minor surgical procedures done daily across the 11 fully equipped operation theatres.

THE Hospital
Related to Medical College Hospital Dr Memory Bhimrao Ambedkar Hospital, Raipur, Chhattisgarh state 's 700 Bistaro is the largest hospital. The hospital has existed since 1995, the former District Hospital DK Hospital, Raipur was related to the college. dr Bhim Rao Ambedkar Hospital, named in 2002 Chlghl Rule made ​​by its former name of the hospital was Mekahara.

The hospital is located on the city's Central Jail Road. Apt 26 wards and ICU in the hospital ward and 11 major departments. Jugac Peeithalawji for various clinical, microbiology, Bayokemaastry, radio Daygnosis ultrasound under which digital X-ray, CT scan, Mlarlael The feature. For heart disease Jugac Elsiljil, Echo cardiography Te.amaltel Jugac of facilities and services as well as the training of physiotherapy. Indira Gandhi Cancer Institute has been established in the hospital.

Jahug cobalt machine, Memaogrofi, Memoton and linear accelerator, the facility's Medication. Nose - ears - throat department of Speech (talking) and hearing (auditory) related Jugac and treatment is available for Audiometry Bera. Eye Diseases Department Jugac by excellent equipment and laser and surgical therapy is available.

OPD of the morning work period: 08:30 1:30 per day (except Sundays and public holidays) casual emergency medicine department patients are seen in the day and night 24 hours.

COURSE OFFERED - UG PROGRAMME
UG (MBBS) COURSE -
Students from various parts of the country can take admission in the institute as per rule (15% seats are allocated on the basis of selected CPMT candidates & 3 % seats are of Central Government Nominee) Rest 82% seats are allotted to the State candidates on merit, who have successfully cleared CGPMT.
Duration of all the degree courses is five and half years (Including one year compulsory rotating internship).

ADMISSION PROCEDURE
State Quota :- For admission under this quota, a candidate is required to qualify in Pre Medical Test (CGPMT) conducted by Professional Examination Board, Chhattisgarh (CGVYAPAM). There after candidates possessing domicile of Chhattisgarh State are called for counseling by Directorate of Medical Education, Govt. of Chhattisgarh and seats are allotted according to the availability, at the time of counseling.

All India Quota :- Under this quota, a candidate must qualify in All India Pre-Medical Entrance Examination conducted by CBSE, New Delhi. Thereafter, candidates are called for counseling by Directorate General of Health Services, Medical Examination Cell and according to availability at the time of counseling seats are distributed.

Central Government Nominee :-
This quota needs a candidate who has nominated by Government of India, Ministry of Health & Family Welfare.

Library
The library of this university, which is named after Pt. Sundarlal Sharma the legendry freedom fighter and social reformer, is housed in a four storied functional independent building with greenery all around, in a peaceful environment, located at the heart of the campus. This library, which is unmatched, to any other library of this region, so far its services, collection, staff and readers are concerned, was established in 1965.

Apart from providing all conventional services for the satisfaction of readers ranging from under graduate students to eminent scholars, this library is having computer network facility with VSAT connectivity. Seven computers with this facility have been dedicated to readers only for there e-reading. Library has a separate reprographic section equipped with digital photocopiers, scanners and also microfilms reader.

Library remains open from 8.00 AM to 6.00 PM on all days including holidays and Sunday, excluding only three National Holidays and one Holi. The Faculties, Research Scholars and Students can become the members of the library after filling the prescribed form. Reader's tickets are issued to the members to enable them to borrow books from the library.

This tickets are strictly non- transferable. The rules governing the functioning of the library are notified from time to time for the benefits of members. Books are issued for 2 weeks. It is advised not to keep the books beyond due date to avoid overdue fines. A total of 320 seating arrangements are presently available in four floors of library with two independent reading halls for 'textbooks' and research periodicals respectively.

Executive Council
The Executive Council, is the apex body of the University. The term is for three years. The Executive Council holds, control and administers the property, funds of the University. The Executive Council has the power to regulate and enforce discipline among members of the teaching, administrative and ministerial staff of the University.

Sports Committee
For purpose of promoting sports and physical welfare of the students, Sports Committee is constituted. The term is for 3 years. Sports Committee organizes, controls, manages and supervises inter-collegiate sports and tournaments, undertakes inter-university competitions.

Library Committee
To administer all endowments for the University Library, and allotments made in the budget, for purchase of books and periodicals. Library Committee frames rules for use of books and journals. The Library Committee's term is for 3 years.

Finance Committee
Scrutinizes the annual accounts together with audit, advise to sanction expenditure on new-items. The term of the Finance Committee is co-terminus with that of the Executive Council.

Academic Planning and Evaluation Board
Academic Planning and Evaluation Board prepares short term and long term plans of the University. Makes proposals for establishment of department, institutions of research, and specialized studies, laboratories, and museums. The term is for 3 years.

Affiliation of Colleges
Statute No. 27 entitled affiliation of Colleges:
The Executive Council prescribes the terms and conditions, under which colleges and other institutions may be admitted to the privileges of the University, and the withdrawals of such privileges. The Executive Council grants affiliations, permit opening of new subject, class and extend affiliation period. The Executive Council also grants permanent affiliation and autonomy to the colleges.

Statute No. 28 entitled College code:
Formation of governing body, college council, powers and duties of the Principals, maintenance of provident funds, mode of appointment and selection, service - conditions of non-government colleges. The University also appoints subject-expert in selection committee, for appointment of teaching and non-teaching post in non-government colleges.

Registration of Ph.D. Students
Under provison to ordinance No, 45, the University registers the names of Research Scholars, for the award of Ph.D., D.Lit./D.Sc. degrees. The University also recognizes Ph.D. Guide, and Research Institution.

Seniority List of Teachers
The University under provision to 35 (O), section of the Madhya Pradesh Vishwavidyalaya Adhiniyam 1973 and Statute No. 16, 17 and 19 prepares and notify seniority list of Lecturers, Assistant Professors, Readers, Professor and Principals of College and School of Studies of the University.

Eligibility Certificate
The University issues eligibility certificate to the students passing out from other Universities in India for appearing in various examinations of this University

New Ordinance and Amendments
The University frames new ordinances, statutes and regulations and proposes amendments required there in.

Publication of Syllabus
The University also publishes syllabi of various examinations conducted by the University.
