Pushpagiri Medical College

Pushpagiri Medical Society (Reg. No. P.73/92) is a charitable Society registered under Travancore Cochin Literary Scientific & Charitable Societies Registration Act - 1955. The Society is the official organ of the Malankara Catholic Diocese of Tiruvalla in its health care, medical and para medical educational ministry. H. E. Dr. Thomas Mar Koorilos, is the Patron of the Society and Rev. Dr. Abraham Mulamoottil, Secretary is managing the day to day affairs of the Society. Our mission is to To work towards a Knowledge Society with life in abundance through Science and Technology, improving Health Care for our immediate community, state, country and the world at large.

Pushpagiri started as a small clinic in Cheru Pushpagiri Hills with 8 beds in the year 1959 to provide maternity care to the rural people in and around Tiruvalla by the Catholic Diocese of Tiruvalla. As an initial step to attain its objectives the Society took over the ownership and management of Pushpagiri Hospital which had grown into a super specialty hospital with 550 beds. By the year 2001, Pushpagiri Group of Institutions initiated projects for a medical college and a nursing college.

Pushpagiri College of Pharmacy started the Bachelor of Pharmacy (B. Pharm) course in the year 2004 with an annual intake of 60 students. The college is approved by Govt. of Kerala, Pharmacy Council of India & AICTE. The College is affiliated to Mahatma Gandhi University, Kottayam & Kerala University of Health Sciences, Thrissur. The institution is upgraded to PG institution from 2011-12 academic years.

Pushpagiri College of pharmacy mainly focuses on providing a value based learning which make you a person and a professional throughout your life. Together with the academic development, the overall development of the individual is our concern.

Pushpagiri College of Dental Sciences started in the year 2006 with an annual intake of 50 students. The Department of Health & Family Welfare, Government of India, through the Dental Council of India, recognized this institution.

The College is affiliated to the Mahatma Gandhi University, Kottayam, Kerala and New Batches to kerala university of health sciences KUHS. Pushpagiri College of Dental Sciences is housed in the second campus of Pushpagiri Medical Soceity, The Pushpagiri Medicity; which is just 3 kilometers away from Tiruvalla town and is beside the state highway (S.H I) (previously Main Central Road).

Infrastructure:
Organizational Structure: The Library presently housed in a temporary premises has the following functional units: Property Counter Members entering the library are advised to keep their personal belongings bags, umbrellas, overcoats, books and other printed materials including photocopies in the property counter (shelves with pigeon holes).

They shall also then record the particulars in the Visitors 1/2 Register placed on the desk at the nearby security point. External Reading Room Students who want to bring in their personal copies of textbooks are welcome to do so by-passing the Property Counter (books only, and no other belongings) and study in the external reading room close to the entrance to the library. OPAC: The Catalogue The entire stock of the library is fully computerized and anyone looking for a conventional cabinet of catalogue cards would be disappointed. OPAC Online Public Access Catalogue provided on a couple of computer terminals replaces the traditional card catalogue. It is quite simple in operation: Just type the term by which you want to make the search name of author, title, subject or any key word and enter. You are lead to the screen listing books with all relevant pieces of information title, author, call number and accession number.

If necessary, double-clicking at a particular item would give further details about the book including the number of copies and their status (availability). A member of the library staff would always be ready to assist you in this if and when necessary. The Central Counter Once a visitor crosses the above three points, he is in front of a large multi-purpose or multi-functional counter. That happens to be the temporary arrangement made until the library gets shifted to its own permanent location.
