Putian University is located in Fujian Province, Mainland China. In 2002, Xinghua Vocational University, Fujian Medical University Putian Campus, Fujian Advanced Women and Children Heath School, Putian Teachers Continuing Education College and Putian Oversea Chinese Normal College of Physical Education, were merged and transformed into Putian University. There are 12 colleges including College of Medicine (Departments of Clinical Medical Science, Nursing, Basic Medical Science and Pharmacy) in Putian University.

The purpose of the meeting on September 10th was to begin the duel university academic exchange and collaboration. Prof. Yong-lian Wu, Dean of the Medical College at Putian University, led 6 professors to China Medical University (CMU) in order to attend a 2-month training course focusing on nursing, cancer, biostatistics, and basic medical science.

On September 10th the delegation of Putian University meet with CMU's President Prof. Jong-Tsun Huang, Vice-President Prof. Ying-Shiung Lee, Prof. Cheng-Chun Lee (Vice-Dean of College of Health Care), and the other professors in charge of Putian University's faculty training courses over the next two months. President Huang gave the delegates a brief introduction of CMU. He shared his goals to become one of the Worlds Top 500 Medical Universities and to excel in teaching and research. He hopes both universities can effectively collaborate together on the faculty and research exchange initiative. After the introduction, President Huang suggested the delegates learn about the clinic training at the School of Nursing and problem-based learning at CMU's Center for Faculty Development.

After the meeting Prof. Cheng-Chun Lee led the delegates through CMU hospitals. This gave Putian University delegates a better understanding of the cooperation between the university and the hospital. On behalf of all the delegates, Dean Prof. Wu of Putian University expressed his appreciation to CMU for the effort and kindness it took to arrange the courses for their professors.

The University's library holds 850,000 volumes of books, and has teaching equipment valued at RMB 71,100,000 Yuan. The University has set up a Modern Education Technology Center, Network Center, Pre-employment Training Center, and various laboratories for different majors. It has affiliated itself with 2 hospitals as well.

At present it has 11 teaching Departments, including Chinese Language & Literature, Math & Applied Math, Foreign Languages, Environment & Life Sciences, Business Management, Electronic Information Engineering, Architectural Engineering, Physical Education, Adult Education Arts, Medical (including Clinical Medicine, Nursing, Medicine and Fundamental Medicine Division), and Social Science Division. Now this Department has a teaching staff of 926 with more than 607 professional teachers, of which 172 are full professors or associate professors. Meanwhile, our University recruits more than 20 skilled professors from both home and abroad annually.

The University aims at cultivating qualified personnel with professional knowledge and skills needed in serving the local socio-economic development. It offers 30 undergraduate programs, namely Computer Science & Technology (including teacher-training program), Environmental Engineering, Accounting, Chinese Language & Literature (including secretary training), Math & Applied Maths, Information and Calculation Science, English Language Education (including International Business English), Japanese, Tourism Management, Biotechnology, Management for Environmental Resource & Municipal Design, Civil Engineering, Electronic Information Engineering, Technology and Equipment for Observation and Control, Applied Chemistry, Engineering Management, Financial management, Marketing, Physical Education, Advertisement, Human Resource Management, Public Service Administration, Art, Art Layout, musicology, Nursing and Medicine, the University also offers 23 majors for the students of 3-year programs, which includes Mechanic & Electronic Engineering and Clinical Medicine. The University enrolls students from 20 provinces and cities. At present, it has a total enrollment of nearly 13,000 full-time students.

In terms of discipline construction, the University sets a high standard, aimed at advanced levels and makes great efforts to construct a disciplined group of future leaders in the following six fields: Electronic Information Technology, Environment & Life Sciences, Economics & Management, Math, Medicine & Pharmacology, Humanities & Social Science, of which courses are the main focus of our University. The University is now seeking partnership with other Universities Overseas, so as to bring about the coordinating of other skills disciplines in the area of Information Science, Medicine and Engineering Science, which will promote the development of modern technology and socio-economy.

So far, special stress has been laid on two undergraduates programs: Accounting and Computer Science & Technology, which have won the strong support from Dr. Li Wenzheng, the chairman of the Board of the Lippo Group. With his support, one class of the majors has been supplied with original English textbooks commonly used in Universities in western countries, and also professors from both home and abroad are currently invited here to teach. In terms of personnel training, for enhancing the teaching of English and computer science and strengthening the moral and credit education, the university hopes to balance the students' humanity and professional qualities. This is to improve the overall qualification of all the students and enable them to become ones with a solid foundation, broad skills and strong adaptability to face a bright future.
