For nearly five decades, the Bapuji Educational Association (BEA) has been continuously working towards transforming Davangere, in the State of Karnataka into a major centre of education.

Founded in July 1958, the BEA was established for the advancement of education in the fields of Arts, Fine arts, Commerce, Education, Humanities, Law, Science, Medicine, Dental Sciences, Nursing, Pharmacy, Engineering, Management Studies & other allied educational faculties and to establish & manage hospitals and charitable institutions for the benefit of society, in addition to creation of & providing a resource bank for the country in times of need.

Today, 49 years on, the BEA manages as many as 43 educational institutions ranging from kindergartens to professional colleges offering post-graduate courses. The association runs 11 hostels for their students - three for boys and eight for girls.

Department of Anatomy

The Department of Anatomy is in two floors with excellent ventilation and modern infrastructure. The dissection hall is fitted with modern duct like exhaust system. It has a dedicated and highly qualified faculty.
Museum is one of the jewels in the crown. The gallery houses an amazing collection of more than 200 wet and dry specimens covering all the regions of the body, besides umpteen number of embryology models and charts.
Histology section The prestigious hall with a capacity to accommodate 90 students at a time, has a well equipped laboratory and each student is provided with a microscope for microscopic studies.
Departmental library - is well stocked with 110 books.
The Demonstration rooms and seminar hall have been provided with OHPs, LCD and CCTV cameras.

Department of Anesthesiology and critical care at SSIMS&RC started in the year 2004. From the time of inception it has grown into a fully fledged department with 1 professor, 3 Asso. Professors, 6 asst. Professors, and many senior residents.

There are 14 state of the art, fully equipped operating rooms, the operating rooms have been adequately supported by 10 bedded pre-anesthetic holding room, a pre-anesthetic clinic, and 12 bedded post-operative care unit with adequate facilities for oxygen, suction and monitors. The department caters to the following specialties - General Surgery, OBGyn, ENT, Orthopedics, Pediatric surgery, Plastic surgery, Surgical Oncology, Oromaxillofacial surgery, Neurosurgery, Urology and Cardiothoracic surgery. We also cater to the departments like Ophthalmology, CT room, radiology and cath rooms.

We provide comprehensive anesthesia care to the patient. The department excels not only in specialized field of anesthesiology but also in field of critical care medicine and pain management.

Apart from performing conventional general anesthesia, spinal, epidural and nerve blocks with nerve locators, we also perform pediatric regional anesthesia, specialized procedures like fibre-optic intubations.

The teaching faculty of the department conducts seminars, journal clubs, case discussion and morbidity meetings, and lectures regularly. The department conducted state level CME and WORKSHOPS in the year 2008 and 2009 and plan to keep it as an ongoing project to keep abreast with with the changing trends and updates in the field of anesthesiology and critical care

Our department aims to train the undergraduates in the basics of anesthesia care and emergency life, produce a competent anesthesiologist capable of carrying out anesthesia procedures in all fields of surgery and managing critically ill patients and carry out pain management.

We also impart hands on training of all the students, nurses, medical staff including preclinical, clinical, and para-clinical members in the BLS (basic life support) .

CRITICAL CARE UNIT
The Critical care unit which is under the care of the anesthesiologist is equipped with 14 Macquet servo i ventilator, and each bed is equipped with adequate monitoring facility along with supply of , oxygen. air, vacuum. Our unit is a very busy unit which caters to as tertiary care to the whole of our district and neighboring district as well . the department also manages patients on ventilator in neurosurgical ICU, MICU, ICCU, & SICU.

LIBRARY

The department is supported with a very good library with more than 500 books and various national and international journal..The central library is housed in a well lit and ventilated building having 440 seating capacity. It is well stocked and ever growing, adding professional books, periodicals, WHO publications. It is stocked with 11560 books, 148 current journals and WHO GLOBAL PUBLICATIONS.
Through Rajiv Gandhi University of Health Sciences database - HELINET more than 500 online full text biomedical journals can be accessed.
In addition to the above, the following value added services document scanning, photocopying, binding, bibliographic services, e-mail alerts, access to e-resources through digital library are provided.
The library is kept open on all working days from 9.00 A M to 1.00 Mid night. On holidays / general holidays 10.00 A M to 1.00 P M and two months prior to the examination on holidays/ general holidays 09.00 A M to 7.00 A M.

Department of Medical Education
Medical education unit is an important integral part of any Medical Institution. Medical education technology has contributed a lot towards improving medical education in India. As per MCI regulations, department of medical education is established in SSIMS & RC to train teachers in educational technology & to help create a better learning environment for students & to put them in the effective path of learning with their active involvement.

The department has been conducting Training of trainers workshop for faculty in educational sciences and technology with the help of Dr. D.K.Srinivas, former consultant, curriculum development cell, RGUHS, Bangalore. The dept also teaches study skills and conducts various programme which enable students to develop personality , attitude communication skills etc
