The Sancheti Institute of Orthopaedics and Rehabilitation (SIOR), located in Pune, was established in 1972 by Dr. K.H. Sancheti, a pioneer in the field of Orthopaedics. Sancheti began its journey as a 50 bedded Orthopaedic institute in Pune, today it is a 200 bedded, dedicated orthopaedic hospital, with a built-up area of more than 1, 50,000 sq. ft.

At Sancheti, we render highly specialized services in all areas of orthopaedics, which include Joint Replacement, Trauma (fractures and injuries to muscles, bones and joints) Accident Surgery, Arthroscopy, Spinal Surgery, Rheumatology and Arthritis, Shoulder Surgery, Plastic and Reconstructive Surgery, Paediatric Orthopaedics, Neurology, Hand and Microvascular Surgery, Faciomaxillary and Dental Surgery, Sports Injuries, Anaesthesiology and so on. Thus, it is the largest super-speciality with all the orthopaedic sub-specialties under one roof.

Every month, around 600 surgeries are performed under various super specialities by various surgeons, who are experts in their own field. Sancheti is a final destination and a tertiary reference centre for most complicated cases in orthopaedics across the country. We were also present at the Commonwealth Games 2010 held in New Delhi, and the World Series Hockey held in 2012 at Pune. Sancheti's Sports Medicine Division caters to all the national and international teams in various sports.

Chairman's Message
In 1972, Dr. K.H. Sancheti started Sancheti Institute for Orthopaedics & Rehabilitation (SIOR), with a view to have one of its kind hospital specifically dedicated to Super speciality Orthopaedics. His accomplished vision has made Sancheti Institute for Orthopaedics & Rehabilitation, a state-of-the-art Institute, which many similar institutes have as their BENCH MARK.

On 14th January 2009, the chairmanship was bestowed upon me. Although I was aware that this would eventually happen, I had not expected that this change would occur so soon. Being the Chairman of the Institute is a great challenge, which I have taken over with a sense of humility and pride.

SIOR has already established its credentials as a premier joint replacement centre & Specialized Trauma Centre nationally as well as internationally. It is indeed a herculean task for me to maintain and improve upon existing levels of excellence set by Dr. K.H. Sancheti. However, I consider myself fortunate to have been entrusted with this task, and will leave no stone unturned to make sure we continue to perform, to maintain standards, and to achieve continuous improvement.

In the near future, SIOR plans to start Satellite Out Patient Departments and franchises in other cities of India, so that the benefits of our development are available to larger cross sections of needy patients. I also wish that people from all over the world should be able to approach us and avail of our services through Health Tourism facilities.

We have a cohesive, well integrated and motivated team; confident of achieving our dream. At this juncture, I wish to convey my heartfelt gratitude to the entire SIOR family of doctors, staff and personnel for their contributions in making SIOR what it is today, and solicit their support in days to come.

Ethics & Practices
Ethics and practices are the foundations on which a successful business stands. The importance of Ethics and Practices cannot be stressed further when it comes to the Healthcare Industry. The vital significance of ethics is imbibed in medical students starting from the Hippocratic Oath. Sancheti Institute for Orthopaedics and Rehabilitation practices strong Ethics and principles.

Our Code of Ethics is as follows:

• Every employee, officer of the hospital shall deal on behalf of the Hospital with honesty, integrity as well as high morals and ethical standard.
• All the employees, officers should endeavor to avoid situation that present a potential or actual conflict between their interest and the interest of the hospital.
• Every employee, administrative officer of this hospital shall, in his / her working hours comply with all rules and regulations , both in letter and in spirit, in all the territories in which he/ she operates.
• Unauthorized use or distribution of information violates the hospital's policy and could be illegal. Your obligation to protect the hospital's confidential information continues even after you leave the hospital.
• The employee shall always strive to provide a safe and healthy working environment.
• Employee, officer should promptly report any concerns about violations of ethics, laws, rules and regulations or of this code.
• Every employee shall disclose promptly to his or her immediate supervisor any personal situation or transactions which are or may be in conflict with intent or spirit of this code, and shall cooperate with any enquiry into such matter. The supervisor shall determine what action should be taken and recommended that action in writing for approval by the next higher level of management. All employee disclosure and corrective action shall be reported to managing Director of Administration. If disclosure of matter to your supervisor seems inappropriate, you should promptly discuss the matter with the Director Administration.
• Ethics, we also religiously follow the following principals:
• The patient has the right to refuse or choose their treatment.
• A practitioner should act in the best interest of the patient.
• First, do no harm
• The distribution of scarce health resources, and the decision to provide treatment with fairness and equality.
• The patient (and the person treating the patient) have the right to be treated with dignity.

Physiotherapy and Rehabilitation
Taking away the pain
The 10,000 sq.ft. rehabilitation area offers wide range of services which include Physical Therapy, well equipped Neuro Rehabilitation Dept (Pediatrics and Adult), specially designed clubs for Shoulder, Hand, Knee and Spine, Shapewell (Obesity and Fitness) club and a Custom Splinting Workshop.

It is one of the first Physiotherapy Dept established in Pune, providing systematic, organized and professional rehabilitation services. It is handled by a team of highly qualified Physiotherapists.

Our department provides the necessary training to meet the total range of patient care responsibilities involved in preventing disabilities and promoting restoration of function to the physically impaired, including Musculoskeletal, Neuromuscular disorders that interfere with the physical function.

Our management includes prescription of Exercise Therapy with the aid of continuous Passive movement device, Electronic Cervical and Lumbar Traction Unit, Moist Heat Therapy and Paraffin Wax Bath, Manual Therapy, Electrotherapy treatment - Short Wave Diathermy, Interferential Therapy, Infrared Radiation Therapy, Transcutaneous Electrical Nerve stimulation Therapy and Laser Probe.

Neck and Back Problems, Sciatica, Mobility/Gait problems, Frozen Shoulder, Tennis/Golfers Elbow, Fasciitis/Heel Spurs, Sports Injuries, Acute Muscle and Tendon Sprains, Acute Joint and ligament Strains, Overuse Strain & Sprain Injuries, Arthritic pain, stiffness & weakness, General Respiratory Conditions, Pre surgery advice, Post Surgery Rehabilitation i.e knee replacements, hip replacements, ligament tears, joint dislocations/subluxations, etc.

Soon the department will be launching the Geriatrics and Pediatric Neurology Rehabilitation Clinic and a 2D-Gait Lab, as well.

Sancheti Physiotherapy Centre caters to the rehabilitation needs of in-patients as well as of out-patients. The Physiotherapy department also serves as an advance training centre for Physiotherapists from Sancheti Institute College of Physiotherapy and colleges affiliated and recognized by the Indian Association of Physiotherapy.

Along with the hospital activities, the Physiotherapy department also actively conducts and participates in medical and health promotional camps all over Maharashtra and out of Maharashtra as well.
