The vision of Sree Gokulam Medical College and Research Foundation (SGMCRF) is to provide quality health care at an affordable cost to all sections of our society and setting new standards in medical education and research. Built upon the dream of the philanthropic entrepreneur Shri. Gokulam Gopalan, SGMCRF as a super speciality hospital, is serving the mankind with world class diagnostic and treatment facilities and also with the help of the pioneers in the field of medicine. Nestled among the serene nature, SGMCRF provides the patient with a heart soothening experience.

Housed in a spacious campus of 40 acres in Venjaramoodu, SGMC has an immaculate blend of traditional and modern architectural excellence. Our extensive infrastructure facilities comprises of 600 beds (includes super speciality), 13 modern operation theatres (includes cardio-thoracic theatre) , state-of-the-art diagnostic laboratories, fully computerized network of hospital information system and radio diagnostic imaging department. Our dedicated staff ensures the personalized care at every level.

His Excellency Dr. APJ Abdul Kalam, then Honourable President of India, visited our campus and dedicated the institute to the Nation in December 2005. The Medical College hospital was inaugurated in December 2004 by Shri. Oomman Chandy, then Chief Minister of Kerala.

Location
Kerala is a state with 100% literacy, higher life expectancy and lower Infant Mortality Rate and Maternal Mortality Rate. This achievement was due to the development strategy followed by the State Government. A major factor which contributed to the superior healthcare in Kerala was due to Institutional health care including Medical Colleges.

According to the planning Board the State cannot allot more funds in the health care field. This indicates the need for mobilization of resources from the private sector for starting new centre for medical education and health care.

Nallanad Village in Venjaramoodu was selected as the location for the proposed Medical College and Multispeciality Hospital. This is one of the most under developed villages in the state. The establishment of a Medical College could cause extensive development of the village and it can cater the needs of rural areas of Trivandrum District, Kollam district and neighboring areas of Tamilnadu.

The catchments of the area of the Medical College would be 67% from Trivandrum District, 30% of Population of Kollam and 3% of population of nearing Tamilnadu.The Medical College is about 0.75 KM from state highway1 and is connected to the nearest Bus station by regular Bus service.

Our Visionary
Honorable Chairman
Our Chairman, Sree Gokulam Gopalan is a multifaceted personality. He had already been recognized as one of the brightest luminaries in the contemporary business world he had already established a strong financial base before entering the social arena. Understanding the relevance of education and health in the present day, he took up the challenge of establishing an institute of Medical, Nursing and Paramedical Sciences in a phased manner. With the unparalleled managerial acumen that he has acquired over the years, he could realize his dream in just five years.

The First batch of MBBS students will appear for their last MBBS exam in July 2010. The First batch of BSc Nursing students have joined in September 2009 and the First batch of Paramedical students are now being admitted. The super specialty wing of the Medical College has state of the art facilities for Cardiac care, cancer care and trauma care. This visionary aims at elevating this institution to an advanced research centre and ultimately to a Medical University par excellence .

With these objectives in mind, the educational system at SGMC&RF has been so streamlined by giving special attention to elements such as having a meticulous entrance system for admitting medical students, ensuring the availability of the finest teachers and educators, following multi-methodical interactive teaching learning process, having state of the art training and research laboratories and organizing Continuing Medical Education (CME) programs very frequently.

Do's and Dont's

• You are requested not to bring valuables with you to the hospital.
• The entry to the intensive care units strictly restricted. This is to prevent infection.
• Please co-operate with us to keep the hospital premises neat and tidy.
• Please request your well wishers to visit you only during visiting hours.
• Children are likely to contract infections easily. Hence try to avoid bringing children to the hospital while visiting patients.
• Maintain silence.
• Cooperate with the security and other hospital personnel

Our teaching hospital is a 400 bedded tertiary care hospital with a dedicated team of highly qualified and experienced specialists. The SGMC hospital offers a range of clinical specialties, modern diagnostic facilities and all the amenities of a multi-specialty hi-tech modern hospital.

The hospital provides treatment on various specialties such as Medicine, Surgery, Obstetrics & Gynecology, Dermatology, Psychiatry, Paediatrics, Orthopaedics, Ophthalmology, ENT, Anaesthesiology, Radiology and Emergency Servises, laparoscopic surgery. Super-specialty departments include Cardiothoracic, Neurology, Nephrology, Pulmonology, Gastroenterology, Endocrinology and Neurosurgery.
