Sri Venkateshwaraa Medical College Hospital and Research Centre (SVMCH&RC) is the flagship institution of Ramachandra Educational Trust (R.E.T), Chaired by Sri B Ramachandran, is a modern medical college and hospital located in Pondicherry. The campus is situated in Ariyur, 16 Kilometers from Pondicherry City, on Pondy-Villupuram highway N.H. 45A.

It became popular in past couple of years by gaining two successive University ranks, former in Anatomy and later in Anatomy and Physiology. It is a raising private sector medical school in this area providing high standard Undergraduate Medical Education. The institution is recognized by the Medical Council of India, Ministry of Health and Family Welfare of Government of India, and the Government of Pondicherry (formally Puducherry) SVMCH&RC is affiliated to Pondicherry University.

General information
SVMCH&RC is a residential medical institution with its own campus spread over 80 acres (0.32 km2) acres. Currently it is one of the premier medical institutes of Pondicherry, taking in 150 students (100 Management + 50 CENTAC students) each year through a competitive examination called the CENTAC (Centralized Admission Committee) held throughout Pondicherry.

Campus
The campus of SVMCH&RC spreads across 80 acres (0.32 km2) of at Ariyur, Pondicherry. The campus contains the medical college, the hospital, the student and resident hostels, the staff quarters, playground and sporting fields. While the hospital section of the campus is typically crowded and busy, the residential part of the campus is quiet and idyllic punctuated.

Organization
SVMCH&RC is under the direct administrative control of Sri Ramachandra Educational Trust (S.R.E.T). The three main functions of this institute are

To impart quality education in undergraduate medical and paramedical courses.
To be a trend-setter in medical research.
To offer patient care of high order.

The institute is headed by the Director as the Chief Executive charged with overall responsibility of running the institute and the hospital. The Dean helps the Director in Coordinating all academic activities of the institute including teaching and research. There are 22 academic departments headed by Professors. Ancillary hospital service units are supervised by respective technical heads.

Academics
It is a raising institute creating skillful doctors, the institute affiliated to Pondicherry University. It offers medical and paramedical courses at the undergraduate levels. Admission to the courses is made on CENTAC basis and also on management basis.

The institute conducts research actively in modern medicine, public health and medical education. A research council at the institute level looks after the research activities and a scientific society provides a forum for presenting research work. Numerous conferences, seminars and training courses are conducted by the institute every year. In addition, University ranks are awarded for last two years for SANTHANA LAKSHMI (2007-08 for ANATOMY) and SUBHASHREE (2008-09 for ANATOMY & PHYSIOLOGY).

Admission
Candidates to the various courses offered at SVMCH&RC are selected based on an entrance examination CENTAC followed by a COUNCILLING and MANAGEMENT by CETPPMC by college. Entrance examinations are held once a year and calls for applications are announced in all major newspapers in India as well as on the official website. The results of the entrance examinations and the names of selected candidates are published in the newspapers as well as on the official website.
