Infrastructure
The University has modern teaching facilities that support academic programmes: Margaret Thatcher Library, the Moi Teaching and Referral Hospital, Seed Testing Laboratory and Water Resource Engineering Laboratory and the Fish Farm.

University Library
The library was established in 1984 along with the University. It started its services in a small wooden building at a country hotel where students and lecturers were temporantly accommodated. In January 1985, the library was moved to the then new campus at Kesses and located in a three-bed roomed residential house. The library as it continued to grow and expand moved three more times within main campus before its final destination at the Margaret Thatcher Library (MTL) building. The University Library was established according to the then existing policy, to have one main library building to serve the needs of all university members. After 1990, the period of exponential expansion of academic programmes, branch libraries were soon established to cater for the needs of users geographically located away from the main campus.

At the inception of the university in 1985, the idea to construct a modern library building (now the Margaret Thatcher Library) was mooted, and the search for a donor begun. Eventually, the British Government agreed to fund the project at the cost of sterling pounds 7m. Lady Margaret Thatcher, the then British Prime Minister, made a historic visit to Moi University in 1987. The construction of the MTL begun in November 1990 and was completed and occupied in 1994. It is currently among the largest, fully equipped and well furnished university libraries in East, Central and Southern Africa region.

The University Library services comprises seven libraries. The main library being The Margaret Thatcher Library, which is located at the main campus. The branch libraries have been established to serve clientele either with special information needs or who are geographically located away from the main campus. The privately sponsored students has three libraries, the main currently located at Eldoret West Campus while the others are at Anex and Eldoret Hospice.

Any student who fails to register for courses and does not sign the nominal roll is declared a non-bonafide student. Such a student is not qualified to attend lectures or to sit the University examinations. A student who fails to attend 20% of lectures is not eligible to sit the University examinations.

International mobility of students
While it is easier for university students in developed countries to travel abroad on student exchange programmes, the same is not true for their counterparts in developing countries. In the USA and Europe for example, there are specific organisations with the sole purpose of funding costs of students on exchange programmes. It is vital for local students to travel abroad partly as a marketing strategy for the university. However, they also return home with valuable experiences, which they may share with the rest of the local students. In this way, even those local students who do not themselves go abroad acquire an "internationalised feeling".

To achieve this IPO in liaison with other relevant Departments/Officers is exploring avenues of setting up a Moi University funding mechanism geared towards increasing the number of local students who participate in student exchange programmes. Towards this end University should resolve to provide seed money to start the fund. IPO is developing a framework for soliciting of funds from donor agencies, multinationals and other organisations. Nevertheless self-sponsorship and cost sharing by the students is encouraged. The long-term goal is to create an endowment fund to cater for student exchange activities
